'The Missing Kidney' by Ben Myers
'The Missing Kidney' is a novel about tarmac, traffic jams, will o' the wisps, grilled fish, ghosts of lions, saunas, surgical techniques, unexpected metamorphosis, Mozart, morphine addiction, hare-lips, hospital incinerators, bananas, nurses, train track closures, Latino bongo players, contemporary town planning, extinct animals, scars and a celebration of the minutiae of our everyday existences.
Hello, I'm a writer. My new novel is 'The Missing Kidney'. It is out May 2008 through Social Disease. I also have a collection of poetry forthcoming. I also write stories, poems and music books and I write about music and literature for magazines and newspapers.
A co-authored poetry collection (with Tony O'Neill and Adelle Stripe ), Nowhere Fast was published 2008. A limited amount of hand numbered, string-bound copies are available to buy from www.captainsof.com.
My first novel was The Book Of Fuck (Wrecking Ball Press, 2004). Copies of that can be bought in some book shops or via Amazon.co.uk. The Italian translation is available via most book-sellers in Italy.
I've written a number of music biographies and one collection of journalism, American Heretics: Rebel Voices In Music (Codex, 2002). They have been translated into five languages, none of which I can speak.
My non-fiction writings have appeared in The Guardian, Mojo, Alternative Press (US), Melody Maker, Time Out, Q, Bizarre, ShortList, Playlouder, DrownedInSound, Kerrang!, Plan B and some others places. I also run the Captains Of Industry record label.

“Myers' conversations swim with the rhythm and buzz of real talk’…he reminds me of JP Donleavy, with his lurching, inebriated poetry.” - Playlouder
“Myers has wrenched a fine wad of prose from his stinky boozy guts.” - Playlouder
“So self-aware you’d think ‘The Book Of Fuck’ has spent ten years on a Tibetan mountain” – Rock Sound
“A mordant intelligence mixed with a sense of amused bewilderment” – Spike magazine
“A superb black-humoured road trip of the soul in search of profundity – Spike magazine
Praise for The Brutalist poets (Ben Myers, Adelle Stripe, Tony O’Neill)
“This series of blank verse ruminations on the horrors of small town living are among the most open and direct poems in circulation today." - The Roundtable Review

"These are poems for the modern generation; they thrust the underbelly of Britain that we all try so desperately to ignore straight in our faces.” - Caught in the Crossfire
"A heartfelt, emotional ode to experiences, people, and life from each author’s memories of where they were born and bred." - The Crack
“Brave new writing, touched with tenderness and a raw emotional depth” - Joseph Ridgwell , The Guardian
“A reactionary crowd of literary dissidents who just want to hear a new voice” - Scarecrow
