About Me

Take poignant, punchy, Dylanesque lyrics with poetic flair, mix them with melodies from a variety of musical styles, add a dash of guitar virtuoso and you have a fair description the songs written and performed by Marty Lowman.Marty was born in England, but his family moved to Canada when he was nine years old. His father was a minister, his mother played organ and piano in the church. When he was ten a friend of the family gave him an old second hand guitar. There was a crack and an extra hole in the back but that didn’t matter, he played it night and day. Being in a small town, there were no guitar teachers available so his mother wrote out chords for a few hymns, and he was on his way. Within a couple of years he was performing at school concerts, still using the same old guitar. At the age of 13, much to the chagrin of his father Marty’s started changing the melodies of some of hymns in the church hymnal. He felt a more modern approach was in order – it was from this experience that he began to write his own songs. During his late teens and early twenties Marty played with a variety of bands, (gospel, country, rock, and a bit of jazz thrown in for good measure) and continued to write. He spent 12 years as a youth pastor and used music as a medium to communicate his message.Life flows; sometimes the flow twists in a different direction and for a while, music was placed on Marty’s back burner. The muse dropped by in 2007 and turned up the heat. The songs began to percolate and they’ve been flowing since. An album is in the works for 2008. Professional MySpace Layouts by Iron Spider

Band Members: Marty Lowman - yeah it’s all me - all the songs here are demos - just me and my guitars. The drums tracks are from individual sound samples. I’m getting better at programing drums but they’ll never sound like the real thing. I’m looking forward to getting in the studio and getting some real drum tracks recorded by a real drummer on real drums. Stay tuned.
Influences: You tell me - I often get told I sound like... -well, there's two artists that I get told I sound like, but I don't want to set up an expectation. Everything I hear influences me and I just try to find a lyric that suits a melody or find a musical style that fits the lyric. I find one genre is just too constricting.
Sounds Like: Marty Lowman. Stylistically, I'm all over the place, country to rock, to blues & jazz with a little folk thrown in for good measure, so it's really hard to say. When writing, I try to find a melody and style that mirrors the feel and the message of the lyric. One genre is sometimes too limiting.
