The Goat Sucker (2005)
"I totally dig where you’re coming from as a filmmaker and your movie was fucking beautiful to watch. I love everything about it actually... The look, the feel...... The music is fucking incredible!! The camera work... The LIGHTING was insane! Man, I’m impressed as hell. The Goat Sucker had me the minute it started and I was into it (like in a fucking trance) right through the fucking amazing credit sequence. You’ve got a true vision my friend! GREAT JOB!"
-- Richard R. Anasky, director of Actress Apocalypse
"Matthew,
I just checked out "The Goat Sucker" last night.
Man, you have a distinct and original style to your filmmaking. (which is rare these days) I bought into the character and enjoyed the way you told the story with images, instead of a ton of dialouge to tell your story. (like alot of indie films do)
I enjoyed the camera and lighting as well---what cam did you use?
Was this your first film? Regardless, you did an excellent job, my man...and I look forward to your next project. Congrats again!"
-- Nick Palumbo, director of Murder Set Pieces
"I watched Goat Sucker, (Santos the psycho killer?) It was really twisted.
Very disturbing.
very very disturbing"
-- Damon Packard, director of Reflections of Evil
"Hey Matthew!
I watched Goat Sucker and have to say, I was really impressed! It was very surrealistic, abstract and the composition was awesome. Good stuff, indeed."
-- Terry M. West, director of Flesh for the Beast
"Matthew Reel is a real auteur when it comes to his films visual style. His editing techniques, color correction and digital compositing set The Goat Sucker apart from the masses of other digital filmmakers. He utilizes his digital gear to the peak of its potential, creating more of a moving painting than a collection of moving photographs."

"Have you ever watched a movie that was so psychologically mind blowing that you start questioning why you even curious in the first place? I have, after seeing this movie. Curiosity got the best of me, and I’m just puzzled as to what the hell I just watched."

"The imagery in this film is deep and textured. When I watched this film at TromaDance New Mexico 2005 I felt it was Lynchian in its approach, but upon later viewings I have realized that even David Lynch isnt this trippy."

"Reel tries hard to emulate the gritty reality of the films from the 1970’s. His filmming style has a stark, ugly quality. Gaudy lighting is combined with faux film grain to give THE GOAT SUCKER a psychedelic quality reminiscent of the grindhouse features from Andy Milligan. Unlike Milligan’s over-the-top storytelling approach, Reel keeps everything understated. The movies looks and feels gritty and raw, just like how I imagine a snuff film would be."

Toutes les Francais sont Putains (2006)
(All the French are Whores)
"Rejected (content inappropriate)"

"Like The Goat Sucker before it, TlFSP is a beautifully shot nightmare. While the images before the viewer are hard to stomach - shoes literally pouring blood, for example - Reel takes these monstrosities and shoots them in ways to make them fake gold. Reel again utilizes intercut stock footage, various different film stocks, bizarre psychedelic lighting (especially when the Woman is around), jarring black cuts, washed out images, etc. to make this short film feel like a depraved mix of HG Lewis, David Lynch, and Gregg Araki. "

"After watching two other films by Matthew Reel, I get the distinct impression he loves to mess with his audience. He likes to appeal to film snobbery while secretly detesting it. There’s no basis for my belief, as I’ve never spoken to him on the subject. Hell, I’m not even sure he’d give me a straight answer if the subject ever did come up, so I’ll just keep thinking that he loves to screw with people to avoid any sort of rejection regarding my hypothesis. It just makes Reel and his movie seem all the cooler."

Cult-Stitch...
Cult-Stitch (Original Cross Stitch Pieces)
When I’m not making movies... Fuck around hobby?
Cult-Stitch began back in 2003 when I was visiting some estate sales. I studied a lot of cross stitch pieces along the way, and all of em seemed to be angels, cottages , or puppies. I figured I needed to hijack the medium. I’ve since sold a number of them.
Those are some of the cross stitch pieces I’ve done. I seriously need to get back to work on them. And yes, some of these pieces are for sale!
I have a diverse musical background. Driving in my car, I find that I tend to gravitate mostly towards either orchestral rock or singer/songwriters. My favorite band is Electric Light Orchestra. My favorite showman is Jon Mikl Thor. My favorite singer is Harry Nilsson.
Of course I'll probably be listening to Cephalic Carnage or Inhuman Disilliency in between. :)
Electric Light Orchestra, Thor, Sparks, Cannibal Corpse, Black Widow, The Traveling Wilburys, KISS, Roy Wood, Wizzard, Demilich, Mercyful Fate, The Alan Parsons Project, Goblin, Ennio Morricone, W.A.S.P, Bathory, Harry Nilsson, The Monkees, Yes, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Mentors, Gojira, Cock and Ball Torture, Blasphemy (Gods of War!), Beherit, Vlad Tepes, Raven, Malevolent Creation, Necro, Ill Bill, Non Phixion, Dethklok, Korovakill, Riz Ortolani, The Smiths, António Variações, Amália Rodrigues, Mariza, Madredeus, Carlos Peredes, Vince Dicola, Fabio Frizzi, Pentagram, Bedemon, Witchfinder General, The Obsessed, Rush, Acheron, Infernal Torment, Genocaust, Gary Glitter, The Glitter Band, Lou Reed, Butch Willis & The Rocks, Bobby Beausoleil & the Freedom Orkestra, Sun Ra, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo, negativland, Magma, The Residents, Christian Death, 45 Grave, Joy Division, Macabre, Morte Macabre, Gracious!, The Flower Travellin' Band.... The list is endless. OK, face it. I like composers, glam rock, death metal, hippy shit, and some goth crap.
Just a brief update. It has been pointed out to me that I like "heartbreaking lyrics". I can't argue with that. One thing I've forgotten to mention in the list above is my LOVE for AM Rock. I love The Carpenters, The Walker Brothers, Olivia Newton-John, etc.
Mostly horror and exploitation films, but have a fondness for a little bit of everything else.

I'm not sure I like Boston Legal anymore. Back to Hazzard county... And Mysterious Cities of Gold, The Dukes of Hazzard, Metalocalypse, Doctor Who, Star Trek: DS9, The Young Ones, Get a Life, NCIS, CSI: Miami... An occasional Mythbusters... I think that covers it.
I don't read as much as I should. My favorite books are The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Silverlock by John Myers Myers, The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewsky, The Rules of Attraction, American Psycho & Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis, Killing for Culture: The Death Film From Mondo to Snuff by David Kerekes & David Slater, The Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan by Jimmy McDonough, and The Illuminatus!
