About Me

I don't want to delete all this, but just bear in mind that like everyone, I am constantly evolving. I'm still passionate, still political and all that but maybe I channel it in different ways. I became a teacher last september and completed my first year last week. Lots of ups and downs, but overall I think I've done okay and mostly enjoyed it. It can mellow you a bit though at times. Kids are hard work! Mostly, I think teaching has helped improve me as a person and generally made me become a more aimiable bloke.I am passionate and intense-I do not like losing at anything- It's not acceptable to lose unless 100% of my effort has been extracted mentally and physically. There is no worse a feeling than having lost- whether it be a game, a person, or your mind- it is not nice. Having said all that, I think I'm a pretty calm, laid back but also determined person!I believe in the goodness of all human beings- I don't believe that anybody is born 'evil'- society and everything bound up with it makes us that way. However, I don't excuse people for their actions and we all do need to take responsibility for what we do. Just look at the countless example of people who do evil deeds and then reform. If they were born evil, they wouldn't be capable of reform, which is why I'm always against the death penalty. . I believe in NURTURE not nature, the will and actions of the COLLECTIVE not the selfish, greedy individual- these are some of the things I believe in. There may well be a God, but I refuse to believe that if he/she were capable they'd inflict all this suffering that is present in today's world. If it's meant to be a test or a punishment then why do the weak only get punished most of the time. At the moment, God could well be a right-winger, because he is letting Bush get away with murder literally. I also don't think that people should use god as an excuse for things. I sometimes hear an argument along the lines of,'what do you think about poverty? 'I think God will come and sort it all out'. Okay, so let's do nothing about poverty then-just sit and wait for God?! No chance.Homophobia- dislike it very much. What I dislike more is someone who says 'oh, I'm not homophobic, my best mate is gay' 'How can I be homophobic?' Those words make me very angry. Or this patronising idea that people can be gay as long as they stay out of your business. We are all equal, we all deserve the same rights and freedoms. Get your heads out of your arses and get real.Racism, it goes without saying is abhorrent, and motivated by fear, ignorance, money, inferiority complex and institutional policy. Sexism, Ageism, Nationalism- no one ism is actually any worse than another. They all combine together to form a potent cocktail of social injustice and social division. Racism in all its forms should always be tackled vigourously.I am a socialist- equality is my watchword.I like people who just say what's on their fucking mind- you may think I'd be into political correctness and all that jazz. Not at all. If someone thinks something, they need to say it. Get a debate going. I am strongly suspicious of people who don't like to debate or 'talk about politics' or people who say 'I'm not political'. Rubbish! Of course you are political, everybody is! Don't hide it, embrace it. People are so obsessed with getting drunk that anyone who would rather sit and have a debate for a bit is looked down upon. By the same token, no-one should let their lives be consumed by one thing-whether it be violence, drink, politics, music, sport, whatever. We have too much potential as human beings.I get angry at people who say to me when I talk to them about socialism 'yes, that's great, but it's never going to happen' WHAT??????!!!!! That's your pretty justification for not sticking your neck out and fighting for things. You'd rather sit in your cosy chair watching sky because 'it's never going to happen'. Imagine Martin Luther King walking down the street and someone approaching him and saying 'ending segregation?- it's never going to happen' and Martin thinking to himself 'okay, fuck that then- let's go down to the pub for a few beers'. If you believe in something, the words 'but it will never happen' should not be uttered- you are allowed to think like that from time to time, but remember people like MLK and Nelson Mandela. People tell us that there is no alternative, but why do you think they do that? If they really was no alternative, they wouldn't need to worry themselves constantly reminding us of that fact. Think about it. Protests and campaigns don't always work, but there's no excuse to give up.Having said that, I do like a laugh as well. I like taking the piss out of people, because it's a good test of how comfortbable you are in a friendship- if they can't take it, or don't take the piss back, it shows there is something wrong. I do care about people, but I also like to be honest with someone, and it costs you, because some people can't take it. I am very self-deprecating, so I often take myself apart without somebody else's help. Banter is good. Honesty is necessary.I am quite insecure-not about my beliefs, but about my looks and my personality. I'm never really confident about letting people into every aspect of my life, but I have an obsessive side to me when it comes to music and sport for example. Sometimes those things have even come before people. That is because I've been scared to try new things, scared of humiliation, scared of failing. Fear is too powerful and too corrupting to beat you.Oh, and I hate Big Brother Home | Browse | Search | Invite | Film | Mail | Blog | Favorites | Forum | Groups | Events | Videos | Music | Comedy | Classifieds

Heroes:

My ten heroes, in no particular order are: Andre Agassi (made me want to play tennis, which has had a big impact on my life), Tony Benn (you can stick to your principles all your life and not move to the 'right' when you get older), Stevie Wonder (genius), Noam Chomsky(for combining intelligence and activism), Martin Luther King ( for believing in human beings, even racists), Mark Ramprakash ( for always giving me hope you'd one day succeed), James Wattana (ditto ramps), Spike Lee ( african-american cinema would not be like it is today without you), Keir Hardie (Principal Founder Of The Labour Party...nuff said!) and Monica (because if it wasn't for her I may never have got into rnb and soul music, so I owe her a lot!)
