About Me

I'm a 31 year old mulatto filmmaker who loves horror movies (especially the Nightmare On Elm Street series) and comic books (especially X-Men, Supreme Power, Miracleman, The Authority, Planetary, The Ultimates, Preacher, and The Walking Dead). I just finished another horror flick, called Walking Distance. This one has names, like Adrienne "Friday The 13th" King, Reggie "Phantasm" Bannister, and Debbie "American Nightmare" Rochon. Pretty damn surreal. Speaking of surreality, I was also just in Fangoria magazine (the March 2008 issue, #273). Oh, and I'm married to a hot actress . I also write and play music...most recently I played bass in a band called Radio Pioneer , and I'll probably start recording and playing my own stuff again shortly.
BUT...most importantly, I make movies. Horror movies, to be specific. Prior to Walking Distance, I completed Closet Space , which is a dark, Lovecraftian horror project that I directed. We started principal photography in May 2006, and wrapped shooting August 2006. The premiere was August 23, 2007 at the Studio Movie Grill in Houston, Texas. The house was packed. We had to turn folks away. It was awesome. Things turned out sick, slimy, and gross (which is exactly the zone I like to toil in). Fangoria featured Closet Space on their website a few months back, which was also awesome. Closet Space is out on DVD in Germany, is about to be out in Japan, and should be available in the U.S. before the end of the year. Check out our Myspace page or official website for some more articles, interviews and reviews on the movie. Closet Space also played the RIOFAN festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Before I dove into post on Closet Space, I helped Gerald Nott with his follow-up to The Quick and The Undead. It's called The Flesh Keeper. I was the Unit Production Manager and unofficial Gun Guy. Check out the teaser at the link above - it's looking pretty cool. That flick premiered November 24th 2007 in Los Angeles, with a video release to follow.
Fishbone is one of my favorite bands. I was lucky enough to work as the Director of Photography on a documentary about them and other "Black Rockers". Electric Purgatory had a screening at the MFA in Houston in February 2008. We're working on a video release of that one as well.
Here's the albatross around my neck.
Here's my page on the Internet Movie Database.
I also write for Space City Rock. Check it out .
In Spring 2006 I did a small mini-tour with Jonah Matranga as his bass player (culminating in an awesome show at the Equal Vision Records SXSW showcase). It was pretty neat - I got to play live on stage again, and with one of my musical heroes to boot. In July 2007, I shot a music video for Jonah for the lead single off of his new album, entitled "And". Things are REALLY starting to take off with that. It's crazy and surreal.
Yeah, I too edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V3.6 . One of us, one of us!

My Interests

making movies, making music, anything horror or comic book related, anything dark and gruesome (but not in that maudlin Anne Rice "weekend Wiccan" way), reviewing music for spacecityrock.com, boxing (American and Thai), jujitsu, and some other martial arts. Been slacking on the last few for a while, but hopefully getting back into the groove soon.

Music:

Anything Jonah Matranga has done (Far, Onelinedrawing, New End Original, Gratitude), anything Walter Schreifels has done (Quicksand, Rival Schools, Walking Concert), Nirvana, Cave-In, Sensefield, Anthrax, Foo Fighters, Deftones, Queen, Pearl Jam, Fishbone, Hum, Coheed And Cambria, Helmet, Old 97's, King's X, Alice In Chains, Handsome, Flaming Lips, Texas Is The Reason, Public Enemy, Cub Country, Superdrag, Dinosaur Jr., Jawbox, Wilco, N.W.A., Metallica, Radiohead, Prince, Iron Maiden, The Soul Of John Black, Megadeth, Further Seems Forever (with Jon singing), Instruction, Misfits (both Graves and Danzig era, though I prefer Graves), The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins (before Billy shaved his head and lost his strength, much like Samson), and lots and lots of other stuff that I'm sure I'm leaving out.

Movies:

The Nightmare On Elm Street series, Halloween, From Beyond, the ENTIRE Alien saga, Re-Animator, Evil Dead, Donnie Darko, Oldboy, Ringu, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Shining, Ghostbusters, Requiem For A Dream, Akira, Fight Club, Reservoir Dogs, Vertigo, North By Northwest, Streets Of Fire, Hard Boiled, In The Mouth of Madness, 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead (original) and a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Television:

The Daily Show, Penn & Teller: BULLSHIT!, Mythbusters, Family Guy and Adult Swim fare is about it. TV pretty much blows now. Give me the glory days of Knight Rider and BJ and the Bear.

Books:

IT, The Dark Half, Watchmen, Devil's Knot: The True Story Of The West Memphis Three, and a bunch of film directing books that would bore the crap out of you.

Heroes:

Bill Hicks, Tetsuo Shima, Robert Rodriguez, Freddy Krueger, Albert Einstein, Henry Rollins, Angelo Moore, Stephen Hawking, Fred Rogers, Cecil Adams, Weird Al Yankovic, The Three Investigators, Leon Kennedy, Chris and Claire Redfield, Harry Keough, Tom Cody, Penn Jillette, Teller, and my lovely wife Melanie (who is also my Alma Reville).

Reply to my previous blog....

You know, even though I "cheered up" by the end of the last missive, I hate to leave things in a seemingly aggro place...because I'm actually pretty content and happy with how things are going.  ...
