About Me

I wanted to be 3 things when I grew up, a pussycat, a witch and an astronaut. But as the days went by, my whiskers never grew, I never got a wand for Christmas, and I just don't think I would pass the drug test to get into NASA. So I became the next obvious choice, a chanteuse. Searching for alchemical reactions through sound, purring into the mike and sending it into orbit. The music I make is called pop jazz. Pop, because it can encompass an array of music. Gershwin, the Beatles were pop. Bach was pop in his day... the jazz comes from my must have desire to add 6th, 7th, 9th and 13th 's onto my chord structures. I can't help it. They are too sublime. And because of the way my vocal chords were born, I sing low.I am an American in France. I came here because living in Europe has been a lifelong desire. And now, I am feeling in touch with the temporariness of it all. The fact that we are visitors to earth for such a short time is both terrifying and comforting. The paradox is everywhere. Like a beast you can only glimpse from the corner of your eye. It's in the stalking of such a creature that songs are born.fun fact:I am deathly allergic to bees, so if you want to kill me and get away with it, it would not be hard to do

keytar and back up vox, sometimes drums in straight punch to the crotch- raucous and delicate indie pop, a jewel to behold in the mittens

Influences: being a stranger in a country i can't call my own. home being a concept rather than a real place. dreams from a sweet sleep on an inflatable mattress. trying to think nothing. the bass line heard through the wall. the monitors, the headphones, the mike, the little people in my head. the medicne cabinet. thinking my hair looks good today (rarely happens, so we must call this a marginal, almost accidental influence). the voice of randy travis.
Sounds Like: pop and jazz... but never folk is what i do. ow. this is always the hot button question. i think sometimes i sound like that girl from "swing out sister", sometimes, and karen carpenter, i think our timbres have a lot in common. more than a couple people have said "you sound kinda like that girl from "texas", but less rock and roll". diana krall on ritalin. where is "rolling stone" when you need them? or "psychology today"?
