Vasya Gontarsky

This page is a tribute to the great ukrainian songwriter Vasya Gontarsky. Vasyl Gontarsky (1963-2007) was an ukrainian poet and musician, the singer of the bands "Vasya club" and "Vasya & Hobot". During 80s and beginning of 90s Vasya studed in the Theater Institute of Karpenko-Karyj in Kiev on actor facultet and played some episod roles in post-Sovietic and ukrainian movies. At the end of the 20th century or at the beginning of 21st Vasya with second singer Anatoly Remizov and musicians Said Sagitov and Marlen Mamutov started Vasya club and the first album "Hipan" was a total succe that hole Kiev cood sing and remembered the songs, Vasya Club was touring succesefuly in both East and West of Ukraine. Radiochannels and TVs ignored Vasya Clubs existens and seens that moment hole Vasyas live became a struggle for surviving and recognition. Vasya Club didn't play on Orange Revolutinary Majdan at the end of 2004, just played at the telt-camps for revolutioneers. Vasya supported the Revolution with all his heart as a step to real independency from any empire, but he was afraid that new nationalism will grow, so his support of Orange Revolution was ethic but not ideologic. The second album "Konokrad" included one of Vasyas greatest hits "Izmena", the faccinating story of love and jeluasy during partizan war, that many ukrainians recognised as a picture of epok, but the album wasn't such a great succe as the first one. Some conflicts in band started so after a while Vasya made another album "Vasya & Hobot" 2006 with great contrabasplayer Yurij "Hobot" Galinin. There Vasya is singing his own lyrics to tango of Goran Bregovich and some ukrainian lyrics to wellknown rockhits of the West, also reading his own and others poems. That album became a great succe and was even reprinted again in 2007 already after Vasyas tragic death. Vasya Gontarsky had a lot of fans and probably got even more after the death.
