The NEDYALKO NEDYALKOV QUARTET have just returned home from and extremely successful TUNE-UP TOUR of Scotland performing alongside the FRASER FIFIELD BAND. Nedyalko and Georgi are guest musicians on Fraser Fifield’s new album ’Traces of Thrace’ which is available now.
NEDYALKO NEDYALKOV is renowned as being undoubtedly one of the best Kaval players in the world. Born in Haskovo, Bulgaria, at the age of seven he entered the Children’s Music School in his native town of Haskovo and then attended the famous Folk Music School in the village of Shiroka Laka on his instrument. During the years of training there, he developed passionately his skills and technique on the Kaval and in 1989 graduated with high honors from the Music School. That same year he was accepted to the Plovdiv Musical Academy where he was seen as an excellent performer and was invited to be the soloist of the Representative Folk Orchestra of the Academy. In 1996 Nedyalko joined the famous Folk Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Radio as a Soloist where he plays to this day. Nedyalko has performed and recorded all over the world with many many famous musicians including Ivo Papazov, Yilduz Ibrahimova, Hristo Iotsov, Stian Carstensen and has also participated in many projects for film and theater music with world famous musicians like Milcho Leviev, Anthony Donchev, Stoyan Yankulov,Pandelis Stoikos and the Akritiko Trio. This will be his first visit to Scotland with the band !
GEORGI PETROV is a master of the Gadulka and is also one of the most prolific players of the instrument in the world. Georgi was born in the small village of Sinagovstl, in north west Bulgaria near the Danube river, not far from the borders of Romania and Serbia. His Father Iordan was a famous musician in the region, being a master of all the traditional wind instruments including the Kaval, and many different kinds of Duduk. His first public performance was at the age of seven in the famous Bulgarian music festival in Koprivshitsa, where he won a gold medal. This set a pattern and as Georgi grew older, he continued to win the top prize in the annual national Folklore Competitions for every age group on the Gadulka. From the age of thirteen to eighteen he studied at the Pleven Musical school, and then spent a further five years specialising in folk instruments at the Bulgarian Academy for Folklore in Plovdiv. During this period Georgi started to compose his own music and began recording with Plovdiv radio and the world famous Radio Sofia National Folklore Orchestra. In 1988 he won the Adjudicator’s Special Award in the International Radio Competition in Bratislava. Georgi has arranged music, recorded and performed extensively with many famous groups and musicians around the world including the Radio Sofia Orchestra, renowned Bulgarian womens choir THE BULGARIAN VOICES ANGELITE and RIVERDANCE.
TIMA OUTCHIKOVA-NEDYALKOVA was born in the town of Pazardzhik into a musical family. She is known for beautifully performing songs from the Pazardzhik region and Thrace. She graduated from the Folk Music High School in Shiroka Luka in 1991 and later from the Music Academy in Plovdiv in 1995. Since graduating, Tima has been performing as a soloist in the internationally acclaimed amazing Bulgarian women’s choir THE BULGARIAN VOICES ANGELITE. Together with this group she has participated in many projects with notables such as Bobby McFerrin, Jan Garbarek, "Hun- Hur -Tu", Chris Hinze, ’’Moscow Art Trio", and Adriano Celentano.
ANGEL VULCHEV DIMITROV was born in a Bulgarian town called Haskovo. He started his musical education at the age of 6 and since 1979 he has studied the Bulgarian folklore instrument Tambura, which let him enter the Secondary Music School in Shiroka Luka in 1981. After his graduation, his application for the National Academy for Musical and Dance in Plovdiv was accepted. In his professional experience as a musician he has played equally well folk music, rock and ethno-jazz, and has been working with such famous musicians as Ivan Milev, Ivo Papazov, Teodosi Spasov amongst many many others. The main stream, determining the Angel Dimitrov’s style, presence in the family of the great world guitarists, is the traditional Bulgarian folklore - basic and inseparable detail in his creativity and improvisation.
