About Me

"...Although all the members turn in credible and occasionally inspired performances the most consistently interesting member of the group has to be violinist Brigitte Dajczer. Her solo introduction to "Night Without Moon" is one of the highlights of an altogether admirable CD. Opa!" The Rembetika Hipsters' LP "Architects of Narghilé", review by Bruce Pollock Calgary News and Entertainment Weekly 2001. ************************************************************ **** "When Montreal-born Brigitte Dajczer's fervent violin begins to play, the strings transport us into the saddened reality of a war-torn country..." Les Gitans de Sarajevo's LP "En Voyage", review by Branca Petrovic McGill Tribune 2005. ************************************************************ **** Born in Montreal, and raised in Calgary, AB (Western Canada) before she moved back to Montreal, Brigitte Dajczer is the daughter of a Polish immigrant and a Quebecoise mother. A Classically trained violinist through the Toronto Royal Concervatory of Music, Brigitte discovered the art of improvisation by playing blues bars at the age of 15. Thus began her long time musical journey through popular and folkloric forms of music of many different cultures. Brigitte acknowledges that Eastern European music is a large influence in her work. As well as being a composer and arranger, she plays the Greek blues with "The Rembetika Hipsters", is a member of the Balkan Gypsy sensation "Les Gitans de Sarajevo", works with many canadian singer songwriters (Geoff Berner, Amanda Mabro, Kris Demeanor), and continues to play with Montreal's Maghreban and West African community of musicians. Brigitte has shared the stage with kindred souls like Michel Donato (Oscar Peterson) and Alain Bergé (Youssou N'Dour, Yann Perault).
