Balkan Baklava Band

About Me

Ivaylo - Bulgarian/Canadian bassist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, singer, producer and band leader.
Bulgarian born bass player Ivaylo spent many years playing all imaginable styles of music in Cruise Ship Show Bands. Traveling light, with just a clothes bag and a gig bag containing his 1969 Fender Jazz bass, he sailed the 7 seas, made music with many great musicians, and saw gorgeous beaches, seaside villages, major sea ports, and many beautiful people.
He missed one thing - nobody on the ships he worked on ever asked him to play the music he grew up with - the music of the Balkans. So, back in Montreal, he leads his own Balkan/Gypsy band - Balkan Baklava Band.
Balkan Baklava Band is a mix of some of Ivaylo's former Cruise Ship Show Band colleagues, and Balkan immigrant musicians, now living in Canada. Ivaylo is currently in the process of producing the first full length Balkan Baklava Band record.
On stage, Balkan Baklava Band is made of 6 members: Ivaylo - bass, vocals and band leader, a female singer, a soprano sax player, a drummer, a percussionist, and an accordion/keys player.
Some of the BBB members are:
* Soprano saxophonist Simon Stone;
* Soprano saxophonist Michel Dubeau;
* Singer Eva Savova;
* Drummer Sylvain Lemire;
* Percussionist/Gypsy singer Didi Durakov;
* Accordionist Emil Iliev;
* Keyboard player Marius Baetica.
