About Me

DJJD developed a passion for dance music in his early teens listening to hardcore tape packs. Listening to the mixes by established DJ’s on the tape packs made him want to learn to mix. At age 15 JD had a mix on some decks at a mate’s house; playing around with hardcore and garage tunes, beat matching came easily to him, he then purchased his own set of decks. After leaving school, JD spent one and a half years working at Portsmouth Sound and Light, learning much valuable information about all the equipment used within the dance music culture. JD moved on to mixing Drum & Bass in 2000 after a friend left 2 D&B records with him. He became hooked, discovering how versatile D&B is, with so many different styles within the genre; different styles for different moods, no boundaries for quick mixing, double drops etc, and the adrenaline rush. JD started attending D&B events in 2001. This inspired him to concentrate on mixing Drum & Bass for the next 4 years, playing at home and also at friend’s parties, until he got to a level where he felt confident enough to enter local DJ competition Vinyl Meltdown he saw advertised in HandsOn Records, Southsea. He came 3rd; this was quite an achievement considering that House and Trance dominated the competition. JD continued to play at parties and also got a booking to play at local D&B event Mission via his brother MC Lukey D; a resident MC at the event. JD’s DJ-ing career really kicked off in 2006. In May JD achieved 3rd place for the 2nd year running at Vinyl Meltdown. Circe co-promoter of Menace attended the finals and offered JD a booking; to play at Menace’s final event alongside DJ Sappo, Small Paul (Rinsed) and the Menace residents in the approaching July. JD and fellow DJ/friend Tom Reid created an event of their own called Bassed Out, at this time the music for Bassed Out was a collaboration of D&B and Hard house. Menace gave a helping hand with Circe promoting and DJ’s Pepper and Stonewood performing for the last sets, the event was hosted at The Havana Bar. JD and Circe very quickly realised that they worked well together, sharing the same passion for D&B and the drive to build Bassed Out in to an established event. In the September Bassed Out took place at The Lounge, a medium sized nightclub, regularly used for dance music events in Southsea, the music being a mixture of D&B and Hardcore. After this event both JD and Circe felt that the music being played at Bassed Out needed to solely be D&B as the Hardcore fans did not like the D&B and vice versa. Since this time Bassed Out has run as a monthly D&B event, going from strength to strength. Via myspace.com JD secured himself a weekly radio show on Twistedfrequency: www.frequency.twistedbeats.com the show got underway in the October and has run every Friday from 6-8pm (GMT) ever since. JD has performed at Autopsy, the Volks Club, Brighton, on two occasions while Twistedfrequency hosted the basement. Throughout 2007 JD has been regularly booked to play at D&B events within Portsmouth and surrounding areas including one of the south’s best D&B events Breakneck; where JD supported Hype, Noisia and the Breakneck residents. Has taken Bassed Out to Leicester for collaboration with Nailed4 and SP Promotions, been a regular guest on ukbassradio during DJ SparkEE’s Saturday show and secured a 2nd weekly radio show on www.bassjunkees.com, Thursdays 6-8pm GMT. Over the last few months JD has been learning to produce for the past year and has produced a track (hamster wheel). Watch this space. MY NEXT EVENT.....
