His interview was live on Hot fm (where else?) and I got to play some tracks off his new cd, too. I later met Maik for a glass of wine at Finnigans bar, and redid the interview for The Paper…read it opposite. _________________The Interview This edition I met a guy from Germany, by the name of Maik Schneemilch. I interviewed him live on the radio, then later at the Blues Festival here in Corralejo for The Paper. Val: Your background?Maik: I was born and raised in the Ruhr District. My first influences were the British radio there…BFBS. I started working as a guitarist when I was 17.Val: What are you doing in Fuerteventura? _____________________ Maik: A friend worked here for one year and I visited him for a holiday. I enjoyed it so much I started to look for places to Sing & Play.Val: Was it easy to get work that first time?Maik: Dave and Mike booked me for Finnegans after hearing my Performance at U Turn Club in Lajares, and after that I jammed at Rock Island. After which I then worked with Eva and Emmerson at Caspers and Solo again at the Music Square in Corralejo. ______________________________ Val: Sounds like it was a busy time?Maik: Yes it was, and I did not make it back to Germany at the time I planned, but eventually had to go back to fulfil commitments. _____________________________ Val: What are your musical tastes?Maik: I love rock, pop and blues. My favourite bands are Manfred Mann’s Earthband, Climax Blues band and some cool jazz music…Ray Wilson, Peter Gabriel…there are so many. Right now, I love Seal’s song ‘Crazy’ and have my own version I play. __________________________ Val: What are your plans now?Maik: I must play in Germany when I leave here, then will island hop as much as possible in-between commitments there, around the Canaries. I have a good contact now with you, Val! __________________________ Val: I enjoyed your spot at the Internacional Pop & Blues Festival and next time hope to catch you jamming with a few bands, too. __________________________ Maik: Yes, definitely.
