Steph Geremia, traditional flautist and singer, is a vibrant, versatile, young emerging face on the traditional music scene. She 'is a flautist with her own fluid and unique style, informed by her deep understanding of her chosen instrument.'Miss Geremia has performed and toured with many critically acclaimed, traditional artists and bands over the past several years including the likes of, the one and only, grammy award winning, 'Chieftains', and 'The Mosaic Allstars Band' (including piano accordion maestro, Alan Kelly, Tola Custy, Donnacha Moynihan and grammy award winning singer, Susan McKeown.)Other recent collaborations include performing with: New York based, award winning, avant-garde theatre company, 'Mabou Mines', in their production of 'Peter and Wendy', on the original score composed by the late Scottish fiddle player Johnny Cunningham; touring w/ the internationally acclaimed dance show, 'Gaelforce Dance' and also w/ the up and coming traditional group, 'LÃadan'.Stephanie comes from quite a unique musical background. Born in NY, she grew up surrounded by many different genres and styles of music. She has always possessed an interest and appreciation of different musics from around the world and has lived on several different continents learning first hand from local experts. She studied 'World Music' in America and worked with people such as the legendary experimental jazz hero, Anthony Braxton. She travelled to India and lived there for several months to study the Bonsuri (North Indian Flute) under PT Ginde, disciple of the legendary Panal al Gosh. Stephanie also lived in Italy in her youth and was greatly influenced by the salsa, jazz and folk scene there. When she was sixteen, she performed as a featured soloist with various young orchestras in America. Other previous accomplishments include recording and touring as part of the duo, 'Tireile'; recording with West Papuan singer, Sem Karobi and also with the Belgian folk/rock duo, 'The Frozen Fish'.Traditionally speaking, Stephanie spent many dedicated years in Sligo surrounded by great players, such as Peter Horan, who she played with regularly for several years. She has also been influenced greatly by players such as Matt Molloy, Joannie Madden, Paddy Carty, Carmel Gunning and the O'Donnells from Aclare Co. Sligo. She holds a Masters Degree in Traditional Irish Music Performance which she completed at the University of Limerick and is now based in Galway where she teaches and performs on a regular basis.
