About Me

I have had short fictions published in The Olivetree Review and The Berkshire Review, and have completed my first novel, BLACK DIAMONDS. The protagonist is loosely based on a true story and this, combined with my first-hand knowledge of women miners and my extensive on and off-site research, adds realistic depth to the narrative. In BLACK DIAMONDS, two very different women fall in love: Jamie, an English teacher, and Zoi, an exotic dancer who is every man and woman’s sexual fantasy. In an attempt to set up a new life, they find work in a local coal mine; dangerous work at any time, but particularly for two women. They are unmercifully harassed by the other miners and ostracized by the community for their forbidden love. Jamie fights back, joining other female coal miners to demand their rights and equality for women, while Zoi slips into alcoholism and unfaithfulness. This is a human story of love, and a dynamic story of standing up to those who would crush anyone trying to break out of the mold of conformity. No one could foresee the tragedy that followed. This is a story of determination, misfortune, and ultimately optimistic survival.I am currently working on my second novel BLOW FORWARD.
