AboveGround Records began as an idea by someone who was sick of the corporate machine that is our record industry. First started in 1998 in Houston,TX, the label then moved to Southern California in 2001. Its first act was the punk/funk/hip-hop hybrid EXPORNSTARS. After that band's demise, we set our sights on REASON TO REBEL, a revolutionary cutting-edge quartet from North County San Diego. Now our roster includes nine other acts: everyone's favorite reggae-rock fusion band MEAN DINOSAUR, punk metal thrashers FLASHBURN, the Italian post-hardcore group MUSTY WIG, remaining ExPornStars new project ZENITH ZONE GRIEVANCE, a melodic experimental alternative group from Italy called SAVALAS, a brand new undergound hip-hop group from Houston, TX named CRIMINAL MINDZ, one of the best heavy etal acts around: THE MIDAS TOUCH, OCeanside, CA's hometown favorite reggae rock pioneers IRIESIDE, and I-45 frontman TechRon B's solo project AVITIA. Our commitment at this label is to bring you the best of all genres in music, but with emphasis on musicians who aren't afraid to speak their mind or let their creativity shine. Last year saw the first in our series of annual free compilations entitled "The Very Best of..." and "Sample This!" The year 2008 will be a busy one for this thriving independant label. We are pushing ourselves in a new direction by campaigning for new legislation that will keep us from being denied our unalienable right of freedom. This country and society is at a crossrads, and its important for this generation to speak for what we know is right, and do everything in our power to make this a better place. AboveGround Records will be involved in supporting the California Cannibus Hemp Initiative '08. Signatures are needed to help get this on the ballot for the November elections. We are looking to end the unconstitutional prohibition of a plant, and set right the ecological disaster that our world has become.
