Peter Savoy has had a very interesting and colourful musical career. Known for his ‘big fat bass sound’, ‘deep in the pocket bass playing’ and for playing whatever is in the best interest of the song. He has performed with many diverse musical projects from classic rock, R & B, reggae to new country.
Peter’s interest in music started off at a very early age eventually attending both Humber College and Mohawk College graduating with a three year Applied Music Certificate with a split performance/arranging major. During his college years, Peter was a member of a Led Zeppelin Tribute Band called Black Mountain Side and also kept busy performing with several cover bands and writing horn arrangements for various bands including; big bands, wedding bands, and marching bands.
After completing his education, Peter played with his first Motown and R & B band with ex R & B recording artist Harrison Kennedy, Juno nominee and former member of the hit recording band, The Chairman of the Board. He also gigged extensively with DJ Jones, ex guitarist for the James Brown Review. During this time he formed a six piece (rhythm section and two horns) Jazz Fusion Band called Modern Concepts and composed and arranged all of the band’s repertoire.
Later Peter formed, played bass, sang background vocals, and wrote horn arrangements, for the band Funk Master Bakery; a serious R & B funk band featuring the stunning vocals of Todd Harris. The band had a very wide and diverse repertoire, from classic Motown and R & B to more hard core funk from artists like, Parliament Funkadelic, Gap Band, Sly & the Family Stone, to Prince. Later with the departure of singer Todd Harris, the band continued under the new name of Soul Patrol and featured the wonderful vocals of Laura Roddick and the guitar playing of Andrew Mactaggart, former member of the Juno award winning Tomi Swick band. At this time the band incorporated Classic Rock and Peter began to sing lead vocals eventually becoming the secondary lead singer in the band. Later Peter, along with Andrew Mactaggart, formed the classic rock cover band The MP3’s with Peter and Andrew sharing the lead vocal responsibilities.
During the summer of 2005, Peter had the great pleasure to perform with the international U2 Tribute Band, Elevation, featuring the excellent vocals of Sean Brady, doing high profile performances in Canada, the United States and Trinidad. In 2006, Peter was a member of the Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band, Rumours, performing at many huge concerts and festivals throughout Canada and the United States. Also, in 2006, he performed in Japan with U2 Tribute Band, Elevation. In 2007, Peter was a member of the Legends of London Tribute Show which featured four shows; Eric Clapton Tribute, Rolling Stones Tribute, Queen Tribute, and Pink Floyd Tribute featuring ex David Gilmore keyboardist Gregg Dechart. Legends of London performed many high profile performances and was also featured on a Global Television documentary on Tribute Bands which aired in November 2007 on the E Television Network. Peter has also performed with tributes to Tom Petty, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban and Shania Twain.
Peter Savoy currently performs with various musical projects and is also available for studio work, horn arranging, and performances with cover bands, tribute bands, and recording acts. ______________________________________________________
