Kev Luckhurst is a DJ/Producer/Radio-host from Brighton. His eclectic style visits a multitude of different genres, spanning from Soul and Hop Hop to Brazilian to Soul-Funk-Jazz-Broken Beat. His DJ sets see him cutting tightly between genres, with a strict eye on the dancefloor and ear for quality soulful music. Having 10 years DJ experience under his belt, and having played with/supported some of the worlds most respected artists, he is guaranteed to rock the party for both music heads and mainstream audiences alike.
Initally gaining recognition for his turnbalist skills in the DMC World DJ Championships (2 x UK Finalist), Kev has has two major worldwide releases, in 2007 on Mr Bongo Records:
“Brazilian Beats n’ Pieces” dropped in June 2007. Continuing Mr Bongo’s highly successful ‘Brazilian Beats’ compilation series, Kev has selected, mixed, scratched and beat juggled his way through 30 of his favorite tracks from the previous compilations in an all-Brazilian turntablised/cut-up mixtape, to rave reviews.
“Wildstyle Lesson EP” just released, September 07. As part of the “Wildstyle” movies’ 25th Anniversary, Mr Bongo are re-releasing the iconic soundtrack with an extra CD of remixes and previously unreleased material. Kev’s “Lesson”is the main feature here, taking the form of a cut-and-paste dancefloor killer, playing on the movies’ most famous samples and beats. Undoubtedly, the most important film in hip hop history, featuring on this release is a big deal.. Also featured on the EP is Kev’s “Wildstyle Scratch Tool” for the DJs out there.
Kev’s recent dive into the world of radio has also gone off with a bang, hosting the monthly Mr Bongo radio show on Samurai FM auditions for Radio 1 and regular appearances and mixes on various live shows. Kev also airs a monthly podcast to keep the regulars fed.
With many more DJing and production projects on the go and a line of his own material waiting for release, this is defintely one to watch closely...

26/11/07 Japan Tour 2008!!

Ah I'm excited about this one - Myself and brother Graham/Greymatter are going to be doing a 2 week tour of Japan arounf March 2008.. Details to come. This is gonna be heavyweight!

26/11/07 Old school Hip Hop mix CD

I'm collaboration with Brighton old school hip hop collector don's Andrew Edwards and Simon See on a new old school hip hop mix CD. Andy and Si are throwing all their best neck snapping mid school hip hop at me, and il be selecting the nastiest and cutting them up. Expect non-stop bangers from the likes of Freestyle Professors, Maestro Fresh Wes, Big L, you know the steeeeez! RELEASE ON 25th NOVEMBER to coincide with the BASEMENT SOUL VS BEER N RAP PARTY.
