About Me

Georgios T. Anamateros (alias Anamateur) lives and works mostly in his native Athens both as a civil engineer and as a musician. His love for performing ancient jazz popular tunes as a pianist/vocalist dates since early days, thanks mainly to his father's influence. It was during his stay in Lisbon (2002-2003) that he appeared regularily for the first time in front of a specialized audience, at Manuel Pais' "Catacumbas Jazz Bar". His acquaintance there with 23-year old Petra, a frequenter whose Angola inherited voice was never exploited before, led to a surprising but successful musical collaboration that still lasts (appearence at Catacumbas Jazz Bar, Bar-A-Barraca, Sacramento Bar etc.). JAM sessions with distinguished musicians Joao Alberto Cunha (tp), Luis Cunha (tb), Eduardo Lala (tb), Anthony John Wheeldon (g) and especially patient friend and teacher Filipe Melo (p) were an enormous benefit to him, as well as his participation as an actor/pianist to the acclaimed theatrical adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's "Little Tales of Misogyny" by the prestigious "Cao Solteiro" company. After his return to Greece, his perpetual efforts to play old-school jazz were continued. In 2006, he formed "Anamateur & Pros" small combos, featuring such gifted pros as Alex Tziafas (dr), Giorgos Daphnos (g), Panayiotis Raptis (ss, as), Stamatis Stamatakis (cb), Vasilis Avrantinis (org) and Haris Haralampous (cb). By now the band is mainly a drumless trio following the Nat King Cole recipe. Anamateur & Pros managed within a short period to have a growing presence in Athens' nightlife (appearence at notable Athens venues as Alierman, Egalite, Odeon, Paraphono, Trova etc.). Though a permanent resident of Athens, Anamateur never ceases to return regularily to Lisbon and expand his musical collaborations.
