ART HAS NO FACE

About Me

Greetings friends. I am Felix Phasmatis (faz-MAT-iss). AKA: The Ghost of Modern Art.
My artwork comes from someone that can not be connected with age, race, social status or other such things. I am a ghost. My work reflects and connects with the happy spirit that exists within the core of us all beyond the physical.
When I tell you that I am an abstract artist it has a double meaning. I make abstract art, but I am also an artist who happens to be abstract. A living breathing work in progress. Modern art by modern art.
Yeah.... It's pretty cool.
I have a symbiotic relationship with my art. As Felix, I literally become it. I create it and it creates me back. Much like a yin-yang, the work and I coexist as one. When you own my art you literally own a piece of me. We're all connected....
According to the english-latin dictionary:
FELIX: lucky, fortunate, happy.
PHASMA PHASMATIS: ghost, spirit, specter
Phasma is my middle name. So if you would like to be formal, call me Felix P. Phasmatis. But you don't have to be formal. In fact, I prefer that you don't. Felix is fine.
Some close friends call me "The Phaz".

My Interests

Anything pretaining to modern art

Anything pretaining to ghosts.

Frisbeetarianism (n.): The belief that, when you die, your Soul flies up onto the roof and gets stuck there.

I'd like to meet:

People who like ghosts and art. Perhaps one day I'll meet you..... But then again, how do you know we haven't met already?

Music:

I love THE RESIDENTS so much it makes my chest hurt!

Also...

Movies:

I love a great many films. Especially (but not limited to) ones where characters use different personas as methods of artistic self expression or a statement.

Basquiat

Amelie

Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chenney version)

Mirrormask

Being John Malkovich

V for Vendetta

Eyes Wide Shut

The Brothers Quay short films

The Mask (but not the son of the mask)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Peter Gabriel music videos

Fritz Lang's Metropolis

Eraserhead.... Any David Lynch movie for that matter

Edward Scissorhands

I'm one of the very few who like Tim Burton's Corpse Bride just as much as Nightmare Before Christmas. But I prefer the original Planet of the Apes and Willy Wonka films.

Television:

Normally I try to avoid it, but must confess to a soft spot for FOSTERS HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS.

I was also very pleased to discover there is an entire network dedicated to art, The Ovation channel!

Ovationtv.com

Books:

Antique modern art books and ghost stories.....

I just LOVE the irony of an antique/modern art book.

Heroes:

The Residents

Tim Burton

Klaus Nomi

Picasso

Buckethead

Miro

Kasimir Malevich

Edward Gorey

Keith Harring

Shag

Kandinsky

Alexander Calder

Setbacks are just that.

I've been itching to finish up some new paintings and shoot some more photos for so long it feels like a rash. The bad news is that life keeps intercepting my human alter ego with obstacles &...

The first 1000 friends.........

Color me thankful........ Over 1000 of us now connected in the abstract afterlife! Not a huge number compared to many of the "friend collectors", but I must say it's swell to have you all here in what...

A minor update is better than none....

And so it is. Sometimes before one moves forward, one must solidify one's foundation. In this case, "one" is me and my "foundation" is my mere 3 paintings. In other words, I've now posted clear images...

We, the ghosts who haunt Raleigh. . .

This past sunday my secret photographer friend and I were on our way to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences when I noticed that I wasn't the only ghost present. "How odd" I thought to ...

I've only met people in person once so far.

I remember looking into the bathroom mirror and taking a very nervous deep breath. The past few years had been spent filling sketchbooks with ideas for what I want to look like when people see me...

My first blog ever & last words of 2006.

For the past few years, this name and persona I've become has been nothing more than an idea floating around in the limbo of my mind. 2006 is the year I finally decided who I want to be, painted my fi...
