Born in Miami, Florida, Renee Cruz picked up the bass at age 16. She is a graduate of The Juilliard School (Masters of Music, Jazz), The New School, (BFA) and New World School of the Arts High School and an alum of 2002 International Sisters in Jazz Competition as well as 2005 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Composer Residency. Ms. Cruz is blessed to have been mentored by Ron Carter, Buster Williams, Homer Mensch, Reggie Workman, Bob Cranshaw and Charles Tolliver.
