About Me

First to mention dear friend>talented Russian composer, musician, singer Otto Notman Acoustic/ Pop/ Nu-Jazz, http://www.ottonotman.com or http://www.myspace.com/ottonotmanmusic. His first, much anticipated CD (album) is worth waiting for, he is surprising. Otto's single Rock On Baby, below, was performed for the first time in Palace Square, St Petersburg, Russia, June 2008 to a massive audience.
[Super video clip from Russia. Upcoming musician/composer/singer

his soon to be finished album One Day.]
***Look DOWN the page (soon) for notes on food. Background 4
a future book perhaps. Your input will be valued. As peeps on the
business end, if you try my stuff then please get back to me =)))
YES there are vegan recipes I'm looking at, however it comes back
to how food behaves once eaten. How many times have U WISHED
you hadn't eaten something, no matter how delicious it was OR how
healthy it was meant to have been? Acid stomach is NEVER any fun.
This project btw will be slow. I'm doing many things.

[Must say it ... Bono's hot + the clip is great. This site is a mixture of culture,
entertainment and education as well as a showcase for some of my work.
Still adding those bits, so please revisit ... I love sharing and helping.]
[Quoth The Raven... graphite done in 1986, with a touch of white on his eye.
Some peeps say ravens are bad, others say GOOD. Others say the raven is
my totem along with the grizzly bear... Me? I just think it's a very cool bird.]
[Prokofiev's Peter & the Wolf (2006) MARVELOUS I think it won an Oscar.
I've loved this music from when I was a small child.]
***THE FOOD BIZZO and possible food BOOK**************
Mostly healthy, sometimes naughty & now prone to acid stomach if
I'm not careful, there's something to think about food wise. Everyone
has different physiology so PLEASE use discretion (can't say 2 much,
or someone might pip me). It's embryonic + exciting. Food doesn't
end with the discovery, cooking and eating. Modern life has new needs.
Peeps are staying in the workforce, suffering stress related conditions.
Habits established earlier in working lives need to be re-visited.
Food should be good 4 you in more ways than one.
[Pete Murray / You Pick Me Up... love it]
[Art by Inga Moore done for Adventures Of Toad published by by Walker Books. Her most recent book, Secret Garden sold out very quickly and they needed to reprint YES I know Inga =))) but she doesn't know I have put
this here and I am very proud of her, Inga is family. =)))]
[The KIN stunning, accidental approach 2 Abraham by Francesco Carrozinni]

My seven year old loves the first animation, though it makes him cry.
It's beautifully done. Kudos to Yannick Puig. More of my work... design,
photography and drawings to be loaded soon. Enjoy Gopher Broke by the
talented Blur Studio. The sorrowful and captivating beauty of Puig's
animation, I Lived On The Moon, with music by Kwoon, is complemented
by being able to laugh at Blur's angry gopher.

<[b>LOGO DESIGN —
Original logo was poorly done. An unwise ultra-condensed typeface
was the main error, so that when the logo reversed out of dark blue ...
it was a nightmare for brand recognition on the shelf.
A, c and f versions are much better ... more legible. Studies HAVE shown
greater customer response when type is dark on light, rather than the
same layout reversed. Even the new reversed ones don't work well.
This new one will reduce to a smaller size and still be legible,
meaning that NOW it has greater potential. A good logo will survive
reduction and be able to perform at the smaller size. This new
version can also be embroidered more easily (slightly larger though)
and is better for screen printing applications. White space considered,
this design is optimised for use in advertising as well as packaging.
TIP: When designing a logo, draw a box around the extremities,
if there are large areas of unused white space it may become
a nightmare when applying it in real life and be unsuitable for
television, sponsorship references AND the usual situations ...
making good layouts potentially impossible.
Don't forget that companies may want to print their logo on
the side of a pen for promotional purposes, so watch the size
(point-size) of the smallest words in the design. Will they be
legible ... or will they become filled-in illegible nothings?
What about when a company becomes a corporate sponsor for
an artistic event and its logo gets reversed out of a dark ground,
at a reasonably small size, along the bottom of a poster?
This logo HAD to retain the tree illustration in the centre to be close
to the original enabling the continuation of their existing customer
base. It wasn't to be a new company, only a more efficient old one.
Sadly, the company needed more than a new look logo.]

Would love to own a gallery aka communal
studio. An old, converted warehouse with a
central courtyard ... not too far out. People
would catch the bus (or train) to get there.

Progress is an active combination of stuff-ups and success. All good,
as long as one keeps an open mind because great things will rarely
happen speedily.
[MAGNIFICENT, a superb video, a beautiful song. Sade / Cherish the Day]

Will speak up about what's a worry.
In the past, put a part-time job (of 14 years)
on the line for others' safety and wellbeing.
Thankfully my protest was eventually listened to.
That job was lost, as I knew it would be,
HOWEVER after an obligatory hissy (time of
stress) within days I'd landed a contract of
better remuneration with one of the biggest
educational publishers around. It was scary.
ALWAYS try to follow your heart. Certainly many
people could have suffered from permanently
damaged eyesight. God is watching !!!

Dian Fossey (google her) ... amazing.
[Private collection here in Adelaide, one of two Hippeastrum watercolours,
sold by Randle-Smith Interiors, unframed as part of a set, early 90s. I did
this one last, and consider it to be the better of the two.]
The message is to NOT take the easy road with aesthetics in design.
Yes, it takes longer when you have to include something extra (and
still make design look good). But put on De Bono's black hat. Is there
a substantial downside to what you produce? AND if you don't know ...
research—because everyone's accountable for what they do.

Images are powerful instructors. Australia
is a multicultural society. Not all have good
knowledge of English ... and rely on graphic
imagery for instruction and learning.

Being in an educational environment, there's opportunity to get involved
in experimentation (exciting). When chasing a deadline with trad clients
unfortunately trying new things is (usually) impossible. Helping people
is a passion and there will be more in the future.
[Mixed media: watercolour, acrylic, gouache, Mars Staedtler graphic pens. Lots of fun. Detail only, whole work is much bigger.]

My industry history has been very exciting,
like being a 24/7 working arm for Constance
Gordon-Johnson, originally from Memphis
(Tennessee) before living and working in SA.
I met her when we shared studio space in
Rundle Street East, Adelaide (city).

Constanza enlisted me to help with the refurbishment of the Broken Hill
Geological Museum (GeoCentre). Constance died in a car crash over
8 years ago, a very creative and lovely woman. My heart aches.
[Yargh, a pirate ... submission for a newspaper's activity section, 2004.

Many clients include Dulux Acratex (ICI) (direct), Adelaide University
& Alumni
(direct), Master Builders Association (direct), C.S.I.R.O.
(thru Lightning Designs), Burmine Gold Mining Company (thru Maurice
Linehan Design), S.A.R.D.I. (thru Lightning Designs), Sabco (thru The
Graphic Connection), Moculta Wines (thru The Graphic Connection),
Broken Hill City Council (Geocentre, thru Constance Gordon-Johnson), Puffin/Omnibus (direct), Asthma Foundation (thru Burke PR) and countless others. SHORT-LISTED for the re-design of the City of Mildura's identity in an Australia-wide tender. Fox Creek Wines (thru Nicolas Daniels
X Mattingly, Woollard & Cawrse)

I've worked freelance for agencies, in
agencies on contract, and as an all-rounder
when dealing with direct clients. Advertising
agencies I've done repeat work for are:
Mattingly, Woollard & Cawrse, Leo Burnett,
Them Advertising, Clemengers, and Stokes.
Design houses and agents: Lightning Designs,
The Graphic Connection, Rob Wiseman,
Margaret Burke PR and Peter Gale (X Them
Advertising and Clemengers). Repeat work publisher: McGraw-Hill Education.

My Interests

<[b>Sept '08: mother, student, working 4 large publisher.]

[This little boy is in England. I believe in healing, and
until healing takes place people NEED 2 stay happy.
Help him to stay happy, please.]

[Gustav Mahler / 5th Symphony — IV:Adagietto]

[Georgy SVIRIDOV Snow Storm / Winter Road
After a story by romantic author Alexander Pushkin, (1977–1837) considered the greatest Russian poet
and the founder of modern Russian literature.]

[Ailein Duinn / Rob Roy OST. This was the background music to a celebration in terrible ignorance of the brutal running down and killing of Rob Roy's most trusted and best friend who was carrying the gold meant to free Rob Roy from his debt. The scenes interplayed, first one then the other and back again. A very powerful part of the movie.]

[Magnificent Russia]

[ Peaceful Russian forest / Anonymous]

[Snow Patrol / Chasing Cars... SIGH and I am NOT
looking for a lover, as one man thought... simply a
LOVELY song, open, honest... showing the fragility and
sensitivity of men. YES it is OKAY for men 2 B like this.
KUDOS to Snow Patrol]

I'll let you know when I've got
an official web page. It's coming.
First to build a more recent body
of work, which is sensible. :)

Thirty years ago I cut rubylith for
gig poster printing and drew a
gollywog for Kinderkarden.
I was eighteen years old... WOW
much has happened since then.

I think it's funny...mid 80s, at a
printing and photocopying house
my bosses wanted to promote me,
give me a company car, all to
make me stay... already they'd
asked me to run their smaller
shop... BUT when I worked at
their head office I was asked to
NOT answer the phone... I was
too truthful when clients asked
if work was ready. How do you
answer a direct question if the
people in the shop hadn't started
a job yet? Gosh. Thankfully, I'd
been head-hunted. The car +
promotion were meant to stop me
leaving for more graphics study.

[MarQue... talented, excellent view on life, top friend.
His song The Reason Why]

<[i>River by MarQue also. Listening, I thought WOW]

<[i>Wonderman by MarQue. Playful and fresh !!!]

Now I've also lectured in graphics.
A natural propensity to nurture
other people is very important.
Freelancing 4 a large, educational
publisher keeps me on my toes, :)
permissions and illustration work;
+ of course, my Visual Arts study.

Behaviour quickly defines a person.

Life's an adventure...
Passion is the lifeblood of creativity.
Like oxygen is for the body, so is
love for the soul, and true
friendship keeps the heart sturdy.

[Illo for Mattingly, Woollard & Cawrse ... this ended up
in the centre of a newspaper ad, early 90s.]

Mid 2004, when asked to assist an Advertising class,
I'd no idea I would love teaching. Surprisingly, in the
early days of 2005, Life Drawing needed a lecturer...
as did Design Foundation. By mid-2005, I'd begun to
teach Advertising on my own. This was followed by
Workplace Communications and a remedial stint in
Design Management, a class in need of turning
around. OH&S was awkward but needed 2B taught.
Most of this was during the day at TAFESA, Croydon.

<[i>The Right Now Dog, for the magazine, Contagious.
He never did get named ... my art, reproduced with the
permission of The Publishing House, 1989]

TAFE Green Award 2007 — COOL.
Put as much as possible on the Tafe
server to reduce tree consumption.

[Black Eyed Peas / Where is the LOVE?]

[Love doing maps, makes up for staying home, 2004.]

My graphics business (since 1989) ran concurrently
with a casual job at a newspaper. I'm trained, mostly
by way of hard work in the industry, though learning
never stops. Knowledge is gained and passed on, ad
infinitum ... the ever evolving lecturer and student
relationship these days often seems to be symbiotic,
a mutualism. Helping others is usually fun, however
lecturing has its moments of both joy and anguish.

Despite all the stress, the pressure
and crappy stuff, it IS all worth it
when students say, 'Thank you'. Also nice, while I'm not there now,
for students 2 say they MISS ME...
means my time was not wasted.

Please THINK. Absence of thought, and mimicking
without understanding can potentially perpetuate
error. Freedom isn't doing what you like, regardless ...
freedom is the opportunity to do the right thing, to be
able to choose. Consequence will always be there.

A level playing field ...
access and equity for all.
Conscience in brands ... think
green, fair trade, love the planet
and the people. Think freedom.

I'd like to meet:

Nearly everybody... and forgiveness is important. I'm not the strongest
person... but Jesus forgave, and He's the best example to follow if one's
looking for a standard (and some help as well).

THE KIN, WOW, very impressed ... brothers from Adelaide, my home town.
Now they live in New York (sob). Check their vids. Yup, very easy to like.

Take a look at a lady I've already met ... Tanya Ha. We shared (a flat)
years ago, while she studied physiotherapy in SA. Since then she's
worked for PLANET ARK and has written a book called Greeniology.
There's some talk about a TV show on making your house as green as
possible. Go Tanya! http://www.tanyaha.com/ Please look at her site.
She's vital and passionate about everything she does. Be true to your
heart and you'll have no regrets.

Would liked to have met Peter Dombrovskis, even to have gone on
a photography trek with him (and others).

Movies:

[For Natural Product Distributors, late 90s]
Tim Burton's work and Mirrormask, 300, The Ghost
and Mrs Muir
(sweet) with other old black and whites.
Not into fluff, though a marshmallow like Ghost and
Mrs Muir
is sometimes what's needed to hit the spot.
I do love the ocean, craggy cliffs + seabirds calling.
Two people's love strong enough to last beyond death.
Loved watching Children of Men ... cried a lot.
L4yercake/ Blood Diamond/ Flying Daggers/
Chocolat/ Mr & Mrs Smith/ Chronicles of Riddick/
Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang/ Memoirs of a Geisha/

Television:

"The Lady of the Sea" by Seth Lakeman, whose songs
are based on the myths and legends of Dartmoor
in Devon, England.

[For Natural Product Distributors, late 90s]

Books:

Juxtapoz, AdNews, (Aust) Creative,
Marketing Magazine, ImagineFX,
Empty ... all great magazines.
Computer Arts Projects, Desktop,
Adbusters, B&T ...

Reference. Lots of educational reading. Thriller and
detective mysteries. GOOD teen adventure. Travel.
Health. Alan Garner's, Weirdstone of Brisingamen,
Moon of Gomrath.
Paul Stewart's Edge Chronicles,
illustrated by Chris Riddell. Chronicles of Narnia
and many Bible texts (various translations). Seeking
truth is very important to me and I endeavour to live
in truth. I don't believe in luck. I believe in God.

Heroes:

God for getting it started, Jesus for making it easier
(if only I'd remember that) the Holy Spirit and all of
them for not letting go of me. My ex-fiancé for giving
me my son, Joel. Those who attempt to live honestly.
Alphonse Mucha, Arthur Rackham, William Morris,
Ivan Bilibin, Winsor McCay, The Silver Studio,
Waterhouse, Edmund Dulac (favourite piece Gerda
The Reindeer) and many people I've discovered
here ... on MySpace.

My dad for his tenacity. He's discovered 18 comets with
just his eyes & a telescope. An asteroid has his name.
He's the only man alive (this century and last) to have
discovered as many comets that way (in the world).
He was awarded an Order of Australia thing for his
service to astronomy and has an award named after
him, BUT I reckon mum needs an award for putting
up with all the irregular hours. :)

Something needs to be done about SOME of
the typefaces approved for use in early learning.
Type used in some early learning books ... yikes.
I'm only seeing them NOW because I have a seven
year old, otherwise I'd still be unaware of what
needs to be made better.
It's not just the falling literacy
rate that might be exaccerbated.
Reading should be made easy if
information is important.

The problem with SOME of the typefaces
used in early learning classrooms: Lack of
differentiation between certain typeforms
(I, l and 1) and a low difference ratio (x height
and ascenders). Think of the extra difficulty
put in front of new Australians not used to
reading English. Children learning to write.
The letter o looking too much like an a, both
looking like circles if the vertical stroke (stem)
on the lowercase a is hardly there. What about
people with eye strain? Those who sit in front of
a computer a lot? One doesn't have to be old
to have eye problems. Typeface choice is critical.
Let's make it better for the children. To have n look
similar to h ... hazardous! A lower-case h being
the same height as a lower-case t?
Frustration will always hinder learning.

naturedly, for putting so many hairs on the barley.

Essential facts for easy reference
Status A relationship creeps up on one gradually. Friends FIRST. Actually I'm NOT looking now, sort of liking someone at the moment (without jumping to any conclusions). Surprised about the way one particular peep is and I'm certainly impressed SO will wait to see what transpires. Cross about the actions of others, however those peeps might feel very foolish later and truly WHO can point the finger... NO-ONE. As Jesus said, 'He who is without sin cast the first stone', and if a peep's critical sin was 'not liking someone else in the same way', then how foolish is that? Internet is NO different to real life. Sometimes when you get to know a peep, suddenly an existing like vanishes because relationships are founded on what's inside, a person's head and heart
(the exterior simply has the potential to attract).
Conversely, interest may grow the more one gets to know someone... what a treasure that is, and what a great find =))). While I'm commenting... having had a business here in Adelaide for 18 years, a TOUGH industry climate. I KNOW what it's like to struggle and survive. SO WHAT if a peep chooses to approach clients rather than the other way round. Peeps with a kind heart can be ruined too easily. To be in control is to demonstrate discerning business acumen.
Faith Active believer in God, Jesus and Holy Spirit and in always following the heart. Sometimes growing is a painful experience but the results are always good when viewed in retrospect.
Occupations Appreciating the value of diversifying to cope with varying economic climates. Working in publishing industry (freelance) / permissions, research and illustration work (both CG and traditional) as well as studying Visual Arts and Writing. Probably consider me a creative problem solver and service provider by occupation. God of course is the ultimate problem solver.
Orientation Straight and actually quite proper while also loving spontaneity and adventure. Again... follow your heart.
