I was brought up in a music rich environment, drums, on my Fathers side, being very prominent. I played drums from a very early age, both at home and at school, but soon realised that I wanted notes as well as rhythm. I've been playing bass now for over twenty five years.
Althought I still love drumming, and am now able to play whenever I get the urge thanks to V-Drums, the bass it where my heart lies. The complexity of rhythm, melody and, most importantly, groove, is infectious. The feeling of those low frequencies re-arranging your internal organs, locked in tight with a good drummer, is unbeatable.
Very recently, I discovered the joys of home recording, and over the last year or so, have built myself a rather nice Pro Tools based 24 track studio. Using the afore mentioned V-Drum kit (thank you Roland!), my trusty Trace Elliot stack, SansAmp, Aphex, an assortment of outboard units and an ever expanding collection of stringed instruments, including a double bass, I now find that for the first time in my life, I have all I need to attack the solo project I have been planning for years. This is somewhat of a novelty to me. Having spent much of my life in three piece bands playing as many notes as I knew just to fill out the sound, I can now use any instrument I choose to get my ideas across, without having to do it all on bass. It was around this epiphany I also discovered I could play lead guitar, or at least make all the necessary noises I need without actually having to BE a guitarist.
So there it is, this is my one piece project, and although I love working with a few wonderful people (you know who you are!), I'm happy to just purge myself of all the ideas I have had over the years. You see the best part about writing, arranging and playing everthing, is that if you have any band auguements, you have no one to blame but yourself.
