About Me
Hailing from all points Midwest, The Stare has spent the past two years perfecting a buzzsawed, railroad D.I.Y garage rock brewed with a heaping cup of groove. They rock to run away. Zombified by lukewarm hardcore, overwrought nu-metal, maudlin emo, and a castrated legion of pop-punk bubbledumb, the youth of Chicago who manage to catch a whiff of The Stare latch on and follow like rats to the Pied-Piper. They huff it in like ether, making stale barroom air smell like the hot-sweet breath of a thousand prurient virgins. Striving to present the purest distillation of trashy rock n’roll to everyone starved for something unpretentious, uncompromising, and utterly raw in its delivery and promise, The Stare have failed to give a fuck about where, when, or with whom they play. They know only one gear and they ride until the wheels come off.
Consisting of Ryan Harkins (vocals), Matt Roan (guitar), Jay Pullman (guitar), Bob Sunderland (bass), and Tariq Shah (drums), The Stare is currently focusing on playing shows throughout the Midwest and compiling a debut album. Having played numerous venues, such as Detroit’s Alvin’s Club and the Magic Stick Theater, Chicago’s Fireside Bowl, Hot House, Subterranean, The Mutiny, Town Hall Pub, as well as many college campuses throughout Illinois, The Stare has gained an impressive momentum that threatens to alter the face of Chicago’s underground rock scene.
They have also managed to construct an unlikely alliance with the Chicago-based hiphop label The Movement and regularly collaborate with the Movement’s Qualo, creating a gritty blend of rock and hiphop that propels Qualo’s message like a track-hopped locomotive. Whether ripping apart the rafters at an underground house party, stealing thunder from a local headliner, or moving the masses on stages across the Midwest, The Stare only know what every kid in Chicago is confronted with every moment of their lives-something is lost and may never be found. Their music is the search party gone home happy.
