Toni Rowland, born and living in South Africa, writes all her own material, sometimes with her sister Bronwyn. Toni does all the lead vocals, and some guitar.
Toni has had many bands in the past, the last and most succesful being Mantis. Last year in 2006, she decided to break out on her own and go solo. In March this year she completed her first solo album, produced by rock legend Ken Hensley (think Uriah Heep here!).
As well as producing the album,Ken Hensley played Hammond, keyboards and guitars on the album
Working with Ken and his musicians certainly was a life changing experience and the final sound that was produced on the album is right on the button
Currently Toni is in post-production for the release of the yet unnamed album.
You can hear more of the album on her website.
Toni has just recorded the song "Put Your Foot Down" for the Mineseeker Foundation in support of their Sole of Africa campaign. Proceeds of the sales of the song will be donated to the Sole of Africa. The song was recorded in Spain whilst she was busy with her album, and was produced by Ken Hensley.
A MESSAGE FROM TONI :
Hi Everyone!
At last the album has been released ! The whole project took nearly 10 months to complete!
It has been an amazing experience to say the least. I took the decision to go solo after being in a number of bands, because I simply wanted to find my own sound. This in itself was a ‘traumatic’ moment , having to tell my band mates that I was going alone, but no bridges burnt and I hope to record my next album and perform with them again in the near future.
The big move came when Ken Hensley offered to produce my first solo album at his studios in Spain. I was blown away at having the opportunity to work with such a legend. I was even more surprised on the day in the studio when he said that he wanted to play on the album. The rest as everyone says ‘is history’ Working with Ken, his musicians and the master of the desk, Dani Saiz gave me new direction, inspiration and ‘wings’. That is why I decided to name the album “UnFolding†as it reflects the unfolding of my wings in a new direction.
A big thank you to everyone who worked on the album, Ken Hensley : Hammond B3,Keyboards, Guitars Ovidio Lopez : Lead Guitar, Guitars Antonio Fidel : Bass Juan Carlos Garcia : Drums Bronwyn Rowland : Harmonies and backing Vocals Thanks to Dani Saiz and Carlos (staying behind and making me get it right on the bad days!) My manager and friend Kai, for believing in me and making this all work. My mother and father for always believing in me….see I did get it right! My fans who have followed my career and are behind my new venture. And all the others, you know who you are and will find yourself on the album cover.
Peace, love and happiness Love 'n hugs Toni 18th February 2008
