Songs for Human and Autoharp

About Me

Picked up the autoharp about 6 years ago and started writing songs about 3 years ago. Try to recognize song ideas and use them a little every day - wish I had started trying to do it many years ago. I also play bassoon (but need to regain my chops after several years of not playing).
Happily married guy happily living in a small town in rural Mississippi. My wife is also an educator at the local high school. We have a daughter at Savannah College of Art and Design and a son in 7th grade. I also sing in the choir at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. We fondly refer to our choir as the Episcopal Liturgical Vocal Inspirational Society (E.L.V.I.S.).
We also have 6 dogs (2 English Mastiffs, a Great Dane, a Highway Hound, an Enigma Terrier, and a Pug). All our dogs (except the Pug) are 'good used dogs' from the local pound, breed rescue, or strays. The Pug was purchased 'new from the dealer' as a puppy.
I teach Statistics at Mississippi State University in the College of Business and Industry. Statistics is actually fun and interesting and MSU is a great university.
Totally normal baby-boomer childhood followed by predictably rebellious adolescence leading to quasi-mundane adulthood.
Life is good!
Lyrics and chords are available for all my songs (click 'Lyrics'). A new song is posted each week.
Oh yeah, and that darned Pythagorean Comma thing is STILL really messing me up!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: James McCormick, a slightly loony, mostly mundane middle-aged guy who plays autoharp and writes songs for fun.
Until anyone can prove me wrong, I shall continue to proclaim, "I am the guy who has written the world's longest song about hats!"
My epic ballad (cleverly entitled "Hats") shall be recorded in the near future.
Influences:
My inner 9-year old. The kid who isn't afraid of anything.
Plus, all my friends on the Chordie forum.
INFLUENCES INCLUDE:
1. Nature AND Nurture
2. The Laws of Physics (such as they are currently understood & misunderstood).
OTHER INFLUENCES:
a. Inescapable Economic Realities
b. Occasional Random Cosmic and Subcosmic Events.
MY IMAGINATION THRIVES ON:
. . .Good friends
. . .Good books
. . .Conversations about ideas
. . .Quiet time for reverie and reflection
. . .Riding my recumbent bicycle
. . .The company of good dogs
Sounds Like: "Raw & Flawed" . . .
Some guy who writes songs and needs to learn more about how to perform and record them properly. My preferred music-making method is to cause air to vibrate . . . maybe that's the problem.
On this page you will find flawed recordings of imperfect renditions of original songs that might actually be good. I would love to hear more talented musicians perform my little ditties.
I assume that all of my songs are 'Made of Molecules' and 'Well Within the Range of Human Hearing'. However, further empirical research may indicate these claims to be unsupportable hypotheses!
