VIBES RECORDS first opened its doors in 1977.Riding the crest of the New Wave, we also published a magazine (covering both the localand national music scenes of the time) which was exclusively available from the shop.The following year we launched a record label, releasing two singles by Bury bandThe Reducers (which now fetch tidy sums on the collectors market) and one by Fran Barrie(which doesn't!).In 1985 we opened a subsidiary branch on the other side of town, naming it MUZE.Over a period of time it gradually evolved into a dance music specialist,whilst the main VIBES store continued to cater for fans of rock, blues, jazz, folk, sixties pop, Northern Soul, reggae, and other genres alongside mainstream chart-oriented music.Impending redevelopment of the town centre's shopping precinct forced the closure of MUZEin the mid-1990s, but we decided to retain the name for theMUZE MAIL ORDER operation which became our next project in 1996,for the benefit of those unable to visit the VIBES RECORDS shop in person.

My Interests

Music! We like all music new and old, no thats a lie we don't like lots of things really bit we won't go into that here, we do like rock...in yer face loud rock music, we like extreme metal, we like prog/kraut rock , 60's psych, modern psych, alt country, 60's soul, Northern Soul, 70's funk, reggae, punk, new wave circa '77, post punk, delta blues and a smidgin of folk too.
If you produce music, locally or otherwise and have nowhere to sell physical copies, get in touch with us and we'll try to help via advertising on this site and also on our website; you could always send us some to sell in the shop too. Posters, flyers etc will always be used for marketing/promoting your product and not for making paper planes with or for throwing at Lee, although sometimes he does deserve it!
