Whether you’re a smooth jazz enthusiast or lover of the jazz masters of old – James Brandon Lewis offers a versatility that is uncommon in musicians of his generation. His stellar delivery has been influenced by the likes of legendary musicians such as John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and Wayne Shorter.Brandon’s ingenuity as tenor saxophonist and composer, delivers fresh musical interpretations without compromising the integrity of the musical style. His passion for the craft is evidenced by his ability to perform a broad repertoire – infused with such overtones as blues, classical, funk, jazz, and Latin stylings.
When the musical techniques of this Howard University graduate collide, we witness a performance invoked with emotion, passion, and spirit through the mastery he brings.He has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Benny Golson, Bill Pierce, and Wallace Roney. In 2005, he toured Japan with the Howard University Jazz Ensemble in a fundraising effort for the Tsunami victims. In addition, he provided musical accompaniment at the Kennedy Center Honors for music artists John Legend, KD Lang, and Vanessa Williams.Brandon has been featured on The Word network, which boast a viewing audience of 30-million people around the world. As he continues to pursue his goal of full-time performance nationally, Brandon can be heard at Denver area venues performing solo or playing jazz standards with the band Fitz 5 to 9. In the Fall 2008 James will be pursuing his Masters at California Institue of the Arts
