Papis Cissokho

Papis was born on January the 11th, 1984, in Ziguinchor, Senegal. He was raised among the Cissokho griot family in Vélingara, Casamance. After the Primary School he went to study in College so he couldn't dedicate his time to study the Kora, although he had always build them. It wasn't until he was getting ready for university that he felt the urge to play the instrument. He was initiated then by Vieux Diebaté, his cousin's husband, in Mbour in 2005. Due to his studies in Univeristy he couldn't finnish his formation with his master Diebaté. Six months later, in Dakar, he joined an African Ballet as the only Kora player. They went in France for several shows in 2006. He now lives in Barcelona and he is currently dedicating most of his time to the instrument, collaborating also with several musicians.
