Soriba Kouyaté est initié à la Kora par son père dès l’âge de cinq ans. Il était si jeune à ses débuts qu’il lui fallut monter sur un tabouret familial pour jouer de cet instrument. Voyant l’ainé de ses sept fils se passionner pour cette harpe africaine, Mamadou Kouyaté l’initia pour que dans l’avenir, il l’accompagne dans ses représentations à travers le monde. Soriba travaille donc son instrument sans relâche afin de pouvoir suivre un jour son père à travers les autres continents.A l’âge de treize ans, son père lui remit son passeport et lui dit : "Soriba, tu es désormais prêt à jouer devant le monde. A partir d’aujourd’hui, tu m’accompagneras". Il suivit donc son père et se fit connaître chez les Rois et Présidents de nombreux pays. Ils jouèrent ensemble cette musique de tradition griotte et originaire de l’Empire Mandingue.Durant toute son adolescence, Soriba chercha, expérimenta et trouva de nouvelles sonorités mettant au point avec rigueur une technique hors du commun et unique en son genre.Soriba a accompagné et/ou enregistré avec de grands noms du monde musical : Peter Gabriel, Youssou N’Dour, Dizzy Gillespie, Salif Keita,Paolo Fresu...Soriba Kouyaté, aujourd’hui considéré comme l’un des meilleurs joueurs de Kora du monde, a déja à son actif 4 albums, dont certains accompagnés par une formation jazz.Ray Lema a dit de lui :"Soriba a sorti la Kora de sa prison".Soriba Kouyaté is initiated in kora by his father as of the five years age. He was so young at its beginning that it was necessary for him to go up on a stool to play this instrument. Seeing elder of his seven sons to impassion himself for this harp, Mamadou Kouyaté initiated him, so that in the future, he accompanies him in his representations through out the world. Soriba thus works his instrument without slackening in order to be able to follow one day his father through the other continents.To the thirteen years age, his father gave his passport to him and said :"Soriba, you are from now .. to play in front of the world. From today, you will accompany me". He thus followed his father and was made kown in the Kings and Presidents of many countries. They played together this music of griot tradition and originating in the Mandingue Empire.During all his adolescence, Soriba Kouyaté sought, tried out and found new sonorities developing with a rigour technique out of the common run and single in his kind.Soriba accompanied and/or recorded with great names by the musical world. Peter Gabriel, Youssou N’Dour, Dizzy Gillespie, Salif Keita, Paolo Fresu...Soriba Kouyaté, now considered as one of the best players of kora of the world, has already 4 albums, by of which some accompanied by a formation jazz.Ray Lema said to him : "Soriba left kora its prison".
