I am here for Networking

About Me

I have been an advocate for youth and education for more than twenty years. My formal studies include Geography, Education Administration, Learning Theory, Education Philosophy, African-American Studies, African-Centered Rites of Passage, HIV/AIDS Prevention Instruction, and Cultural Diversity. Professionally, I have worked with “at-risk” youth as a Prevention Specialist, an Admissions Counselor for Minority Recruitment, and a Director of Cultural Programming at a predominantly white university. Currently, I am the Associate Dean for Multicultural Affairs at Arcadia University . Also, I am on the planning committee for the annual Black Male Development Symposium hosted by Village Builders, Inc. and Arcadia University. For more information about the Black Male Development Symposium visit www.blackmaledevelopment.com .

As a scholar, I am examining the relationships between socialization, learning theories and academic achievement. Particularly, using the African-centered rites of passage model as a framework for educators to better understand where students are in their development and what services and activities would be appropriate. My experiences are complemented by extensive travel throughout the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, The Netherlands, Australia, The U.S. Virgin Islands, Panama, and Africa in the countries of Senegal, Benin, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Ghana.

I have written two books:

African-Centered Rites of Passage and Education

and

Bringing The Light Into A New Day
