Greetings! My name is Reggie Jenkins and I am a native of Memphis, Tn. I currently resides in Knoxville, TN (Renamed NATVILLE - In honor of our great Ancestor Nat Turner). I am married to my spiritual mate and queen Kamesha Bowen-Jenkins. We have been in our spiritual journey for 13 yrs. I am the executive director of UUNIK Academy. UUNIK (pronounced 'unique') Academy is a rites of passage 501 C-3 non-profit organization dedicated to the wholistic development of Afrikan-American males between the ages of 11-14. UUNIK is an acronym of 5 of the 7 principles of Nguzo Saba (Kwanzaa). U - Umoja (unity), U - Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility), N - Nia (Purpose), I- Imani (Faith), K - Kujichagulia (Self Determination). UUNIK focuses on the principles that will be implemented thru weekly activities and/or programs. Our focus is to provide life, cultural, as well as academic skills for each student involved. Our primary target is an African-American male between the ages of 11-14 (Grades 6 th to 8 th )who live in middle to low income households. .. ..
Our mission is to implement UUNIK principles in order to assist in the wholistic (mind, body, and spirit) development of African-American youth within the .. .. Knoxville.. .. community. We strive to assist the youth in becoming more self-disciplined and self-responsible. We will achieve this through daily implementation of the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
UUNIK Academy need monetary contributions. A families' financial situation should not be the determinant factor as to whether their child has an opportunity to participate in quality programs and activities. This is the case for many of our children who participate in UUNIK (most of whom come from single parent homes where resources are seriously limited). These contributions will go towards registration, meals, office supplies, uniforms, transportation, and educational resources. Please invest in the future of our young Black males.
