I am here for Friends

About Me

I was born in St. Gilgen, Austria to Eva Rosina and Nicolaus Pertl, deputy prefect of Hildenstein. I married Leopold Mozart in 1747. We had seven children of which five did not survive infancy. Our daughter, Maria Anna "Nannerl" Mozart, is a talented musician whose abilities were quickly overshadowed by the achievements of her younger brother, Wolfgang. Both children were taken on tour around Europe by their father.I accompanied them on several tours and once went alone with Wolfgang when my husband was not given leave to travel by the Archbishop of Salzburg.I am not noted for my own musical talent although I married a composer and violin teacher of international repute and am the mother of two prodigiously talented children. The truth is, I have quite a fine alto voice and play the keyboard a little. My husband and I live in Salzburg, where we produce our own wine which is bottled under the label, "Elysium Fields".

My Interests

My family, friends, needle work, gambling pocket change in card games with my friends, gossip, listening to my children play music and cuddling with my husband.

I'd like to meet:

Other mothers of prodigious children. Many women have only one child who is considered a genius, but I have two and it is not always easy!

Music:

My family's music, of course. Then Michael Haydn, J.C. Bach and Handel. But I really prefer the folk music of my country, especially when I can dance to it.

Movies:

Books:

I mostly read my prayer book.

Heroes:

Our Empress, Maria Theresa. 16 children! Ach du Scheisse!

Accosted at the Kristkindlmarkt

Over the weekend I went to Salzburg's Kristkindlmarkt to do some shopping for gifts. This is quite an ambitious undertaking every year because all of the women in the city like to show off their furs ...

We Salzburgers

We Salzburgers are extremely charming people and we love to be told that we are, but we have hardly any manners at all, which is part of our charm. We have an excellent sense of humor that frequently ...

Ottalie is a Silly Goose

Yesterday Thresl and I got together for our usual Friday afternoon game of Faro. Of course, I am speaking of Frau Hagenauer, not our family housekeeper, who doesn't play cards at all. Thresl's husband...
