About Me

GigSpeak.com was designed to provide an open forum for classical musicians. Musicians like to talk - whether the topic is management, auditions, repertoire, conductors, other musicians, contract negotiations, or freelance jobs, everyone has something to say. Some choose the safe route and pose as everyone's buddy, only disclosing their true feelings when you are extracting the knife from your back. We all know job security is not something to take for granted. Politics comes into play sometimes moreso than the ability to play your instrument. It is a choice to speak your mind to management and your peers, especially when it comes to standing up for something you believe in. When confronted with an issue that 'should' be brought to light, we must weigh the costs and benefits of exposing our thoughts. It is painful to sit through rehearsal after rehearsal repressing the need to express oneself. But it is even more painful to be fired or to be 'encouraged' to resign from one's post as a result of standing up for what you believe in.
GigSpeak.com is a safe place for musicians to discuss issues with one another. Your anonymity, if desired, will be protected. Whether you would like to make statements about your symphony's management, or if you just wish to tell your stand partner that he needs to bathe, we at GigSpeak believe it is your right.
