From The House Warming Issue...Two black and chrome desk chairs. No dog barking, no motorbike in the drive way, no rabbit, but books and thoughts and letters and photographs and material clues to existence. A few connections transcending the oceans. A few thoughts about Grandma and what home used to mean. Staring at the ceiling, hiding things, holding my breath in the bath tub, steamed windows from cooking, carpet and down the hall, the sound of someone blowing their nose like an elephant and then the low buzz of an electric razor. BBC Radio four. The encyclopaedia Britannica, watching movies on VHS, eating in the dark, climbing up to the worktop. Sitting out on the windowsill in the dark and the blue cigarette smoke from someone’s fingers next to the green glass ashtray. And now there’s guitar music and taped up pictures and steam showers, someone who keeps trying to break in through the window....
