Born in Rome (Italy) on December 20, 1989 I live in Grottaferrata (outside of Rome)... I inherited my passion for Music from my dad (drumming is his favourite hobby, but most of all... he's a great father!) and I've always nurtured an intense interest in the drums beginning from the time I was five years old imitating what my dad did in his practice sessions.... until the age of twelve, I advanced my skill to a decent level through self-teaching and playing by ear. Later, I began to truly study music with master Alfio La Rosa, who taught me music techniques and improved my drums fundamentals. In 2005 the group "Miles Ahead jazz trio" was born with bass player Jacopo Ferrazza and guitarist Enrico Olivanti, we played a number of gigs at locales up in the Castelli Romani... Lead drummer of "Roma Electric Orchestra" directed by Vittorio Nocenzi for the project "Musicorienta" with master teacher Stefano Marazzi, a great drummer and person, in preparation for and re-adapting of Mozart in a modern key.... Last August 2007 I attended "DRUM FANTASY CAMP" in the USA, the only Italian pupil amongst about a hundred drummers from all over the United States and Europe, organized and designed as a full immersion drumming experience over four days at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. The program consisted of all day classes at the center of the campus comprised of hours of "theory-practice" lessons; master classes and nightly jam sessions were under the direction of Dave Weckl, Horacio Hernandez, Steve Smith and Jason Bittner, plus more of the best teachers from "The Collective"Drums School of New York... This such experience was extraordinary from both a musical enrichment perspective and from my own personal growth; interacting with at least three living Legends (Weckl and Smith were ranked among the top twenty-five drummers of all time), plus the atmosphere that my American friends an I created during rehearsals and performances inspire me to apply myself to discover new ways to get better my drums style, improve my perfected groove through the new surprising techniques... I love the genre of Jazz Fusion and my absolute idol is David Weckl... who, from a technical point of view has completely influenced my personal style... After also having met and studied with Horacio Hernandez and Steve Smith, two of the world's greatest drummers, I'm amazed at how approachable and down to earth these great talents were, never mind overwhelmed by their incredible performances.... it was like a journey to the highest plain of Music and Drumming.... Special thanks to Horacio "huge hearth" Hernandez... In the June of 2008 works for the Samarcanda Band of the Tanka Village in Sardinia, contracted by Denis Fattori, a top musical director, great person, a fellow musician and e dear friend, with the help of Maurizio De Simone, a bass player and a great friend also. We played every day, for a month and a half, a vast array of jazz music. I will continue to study and play for the rest of my life because, as I've already stated..... MUSIC IS LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!============================================= === Nato a Roma il 20 dicembre 1989, vivo a Grottaferrata (Roma)... Ho ereditato la passione per la musica da mio padre (batterista per hobby ma soprattutto..un gran padre!) e in particolare ho da sempre nutrito un immenso interesse per la batteria iniziando a suonicchiare dall' età di 5 anni, ricopiando a orecchio quello che lui faceva per esercizio.....Fino all'età di 12 anni sono andato avanti come autodidatta raggiungendo un buon livello. In seguito ho iniziato gli studi musicali con il maestro Alfio La Rosa, che mi ha insegnato una notevole tecnica e delle ottime basi generali... Nel 2005 è nato il gruppo 'Miles ahead jazz trio' assieme al bassista Jacopo Ferrazza ed al chitarrista Enrico Olivanti, con i quali ho partecipato a varie serate ed eventi nell'area dei Castelli romani......... Batterista titolare della 'Roma Electric Orchestra' - diretta da Vittorio Nocenzi per il progetto "MUSICORIENTA" - con il maestro tutor Stefano Marazzi (per altro bravissima persona) nella preparazione e nell'esecuzione di partiture di Mozart riadattate in chiave moderna........ Lo scorso mese di agosto 2007 ho partecipato al "DRUMFANTASYCAMP" negli USA, unico allievo italiano insieme a un centinaio di batteristi provenienti da ogni parte degli Stati Uniti ed Europa, organizzato e pensato come una full immersion drumming di quattro giorni presso la Seton Hall University di South Orange nel New Jersey. Il programma si è svolto seguendo e studiando all'interno del Campus per tutto il giorno con ore di lezioni teorico-pratiche, masterclass e jam session serali impartite e sotto la diretta tutela di Dave Weckl, Horacio Hernandez, Steve Smith e Jason Bittner, più illustri docenti del "The Collective" Drums School di New York....... L'arricchimento musicale e umano è stato straordinario, il contatto con almeno tre leggende viventi (Weckl e Smith sono inclusi tra i primi 25 batteristi di tutti i tempi) e l'atmosfera che si è creata con i compagni americani durante le prove e le esercitazioni mi hanno dato grandi emozioni consentendomi di apprendere le ultime novità sullo strumento e il meglio del groove perfezionato da elementi di tecnica sorprendenti...Amo il genere jazz fusion e in assoluto il mio più grande idolo é Dave Weckl...che dal punto di vista tecnico e sperimentale ha influenzato completamente il mio stile personale.....Dopo aver conosciuto e studiato anche con Horacio Hernandez e Steve Smith, tra i più grandi batteristi in circolazione, sono rimasto impressionato dalla loro bravura e dal loro calore umano, oltre che dai loro insegnamenti ad altissimi livelli di performance....come in un viaggio sugli altipiani della musica e della batteria....un grazie particolare a Horacio, mito dal grande cuore.... Nel giugno 2008 lavora come batterista nella samarcanda band del tanka village in sardegna, ingaggiato dal responsabile del settore musicale, grandissima persona, musicista e caro amico Denis Fattori, assieme al bassista e anche lui caro amico Maurizio De Simone, suonando ogni giorno per un mese e mezzo un vasto repertorio di standards jazz... Continuerò a studiare e a suonare per il resto della mia vita perchè, come ho già detto.......MUSIC IS LIFE!!!!!!!!!..Valerio Vantaggio Drum presentation
