Born into an extremely musical family in Northern New Jersey, he has virtually studied, played, and experienced music since birth. At a young age Garrett began studying under the great jazz percussionist Armen Halburian (Herbie Mann / Cissy Houstin) and master Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji as well as many other gifted musicians. His early teachers opened his eyes to World music and inspired him to have an eclectic ear. By the time Garrett entered high school he was a serious player on the scene. Garrett specializes in drum set, djembe, conga, bongo, timbal, doumbek, and many other implements of percussion from the Americas, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Africa. Garrett’s eclectic style is obvious, from Blue Grass to Samba his playing is tasteful, soulful, and authentic. Garrett strongly sees music as a vehicle for positivity, unity and inspiration among all earth’s people. Currently Garrett performs with many artists and bands around the United States and may be available for sessions, touring, gigs and writing for soundtracks and commercials.
