About Me

There is strength in diversity. A dynamic that clearly defines the style of Jeffery's playing. Whether its pop, jazz ,reggae, funk ,hip hop, regardless of the genre, Jeffrey’s approach is always authentic and distinctive complimenting any music he plays. The legendary Chubby Checker, the world renowned tenor Placido Domingo, the American classical composer Aron Copeland, David Bowie ,Floetry, Dr.Dre ,Amel Larrieux and rock / funk legend Sly Stone are but a few on the growing roster of artist Jeffrey has recorded, toured and/or performed with. Born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y. his introduction to playing music was at the Harlem School Of Arts .After which he attended Johnny Colon's East Harlem School Of Music studying under the guidance of N.Y.'s premier latin musicians such as Victor Venegas, Ray Cruz and Johnny Colon .There he received a scholarship to the Westchester Conservatory Of Music to perform with the youth orchestra where he then had the honor of being conducted by the American classical composer Aron Copeland. While his formal training flourished,he maintained a strong connection to what was happening in the N.Y. music scene. Some of his early recording sessions were with Def Jam Recordings for Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin .From N.Y. he moved to L.A. where he was encouraged by his mentor Larry Graham, to stay. Jeffrey soon found what was to become longtime friends and colleagues in what was known then as the L.A. underground music scene which led to collaborations with members of Fishbone, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Ice T and the Rhyme Syndicate/Zulu Nation, Macy Gray, N’Dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies)and even British artist such as Dave Wakeling(The English Beat)Steve Winwood and Dave Stewart (The Eurythmics).Very much like his time in N.Y. as a teenager surrounded by artist like Jaco Pastorius,Vernon Reid, and even the soon to be discovered Lenny Kravitz, his musical history is a testament to the diversity in his playing. . Presently living in Los Angels and Japan,Jeffrey has developed a new approach with the bass by now creating soundscapes....keyboard sounds, drum sounds, guitar sounds, giving Jeffrey a distinctive and new approach to the instrument unlike the contemporary bassist. Now taking his sound to Europe and abroad with such artist as BBC radio host Gilles Petersen, Jazz/funk organist Brian Auger, Ben Westbeech ,Brazilian songstress Tita Lima and Japanese R&B/hip hop artist such as Keyco, Twigy, Zebra and Hifana, audiences worldwide are now listening and enjoying the sound of Jeffrey Connor.I've performed, played, recorded, produced and or toured with artist here and abroad...(trust me...it's pretty diverse....lol..)
