Hailing from the harsh neon Cosmo that is Los Angeles comes Khalfani White, and with him he brings those elements of music that once triggered our souls to hear some and listen more. The moody tranquility of his latest single ”Epiphany” has proven that pleads for more worth while music out of Los Angeles are not going unheard. As long time writer for the Black Eyed Peas, and others, Khalfani struggled for years to retain his artistic voice, amidst the pop world simplicity. Writing hooks for artist, to busy with interviews and commercials, had drained him of his passion for the industry he had fought so hard to become one with. Disenfranchised and ravenous for change, he then decided to break out on his own, in hopes of reaching the grand equalizer for us all: the hearts of men. In this latest album the songs are laced with this intention. Songs like “Fall With Me” and “My Reason” awaken even the most flaccid of listener. When asked about the origin of his sound he says, “These songs are my evaluation, my disillusion, my sincerity in the world around me. I just want to feel something when I play, that transcends the moment.” From the chaotic slams and soulful screams of “ What You Say” to the very sexy, very erotic over tones of “When I Get Home”, one finds the feeling of satisfaction a constant. Khalfani, who has toured with such names as Maroon 5, The Roots, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, and of course the Black Eyed Peas, has gained his respect as a esteemed artist, from the intellectual underground, to pop industry affiliates. He also finds time to go back to his musical roots on songs like “B.B.C.” and “Pizza Chit”; one song, an easily mistaken Chuck Berry Greatest hit, the other a crashing, swinging bite remincent of L.A.’s long lasting Punk scene. Amazing. Khalfani’s music, or rather his approach to music, is one for the new millennia. He finds the common thread that links pop, rock, reggae, punk, emo, screamo, blues, electronic, funk and uses it to weave the most exciting tapestry of color and sound. After watching colleague after colleague chewed up and spit out by the lofty record industry, he chose the Internet and live appearances as the platform by which he would reach more personally the teaming masses. “I love the world we live in now. We’ll always be faced with some kind of struggle globally and locally, but thanks to the World Wide Web, the divide is closing and we as a race called human are touching each other from clear across the globe. I have fans in China, Canada, Germany, Russia, Israel, Ghana, Australia and counting…. and that’s without some greedy conglomerate distorting my voice and underestimating my listeners.
