Influences: So much music have I heard in my lifetime... I love so much of it but lately you'd likely find me listening to among others Herbie Hancock (the quintessential), The RH Factor forever changed my world, James Brown, George Clinton & theParliament Funkadelic, Sting, John Mayer's Continuum is the album of my generation (amazing from start to finish!) Brand New Heavies, D'Angelo, Thievery Corperation, Massive Attack, Ravi Shankar, Gift of Gab, Talib Kweli, The entire Marley Dynasty, Prince is amazing, Liquid Soul, Groove Collective, Cake is funky, Raphael Saadiq, Jamiraquai. George Benson is one of the baddest period. Meshell Ndegeocello makes that bass sooo funky!!! On the old school I say Al Green, I say Marvin Gaye, I say Curtis Mayfield. Dr. Dre, Timbaland (I like the older stuff via SupaDupaFly) Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, Soulive, Lettuce, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Bill Frisell, Reeves Gabrels, Portishead, Medeski Martin & Wood, John Mcclaughlin (the Mahavishnu variety), Tower of Power, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd... The term "Dilla" is a cliche for a style, but I love that swingin backwards hip hop... this list goes on and on like Erykah badu.. The freshest thing I heard recently is Christian Scott, and check out my girl ELEMAY's record it is super dope...
Sounds Like: drum beats with phat bass, from smooth to shreddin guitars..., digital and analog synthesis, major9 chords in random places, maybe an emcee, maybe a singer, maybe some percussion... maybe we play on top, maybe we lay it back.... maybe you should listen and then tell me what you think :)
