Surya Botofasina

Surya Botofasina, born in California on Oct.18th, 1977 is a musician with a truly, unique and soulful sound. At a young age he expressed an interest in the music, whenever he heard his mother play the piano in the home. This interest was nutured and cultivated during his youth by great teachers and instructors in the classical, jazz, and spiritual genres. With influences ranging from John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk to Public Enemy, and Tupac Shakur; Surya concluded that his music should always be relevant to the Truth, and the climate of current social commentary. In order to obtain further knowledge and training for this purpose, he was directed to move to New York City. There he attended the New School University for Jazz and Contemporary Music, studying all aspects of music with the likes of Reggie Workman, Junior Mance, Joe Chambers, Jimmy Owens, and many others. This training allowed him to perform in many venues in the Tri-State Area, as well around the United States. While still a student, he composed music for national advertisements for companies such as Heineken, L'oreal, Becks, and Toyota. This success further ignited the spark and interest he has in composition. In the following years, Surya Botofasina would like his musical journey to take him into the world of film composition and commercial recording projects.In his words......."This youngster is a cousin who uses life as the motif for songs.
