I'm interested in hearing, seeing, experiencing and spinning GREAT rockin' music! Heard any lately?
Cool ROCKABILLY people! Fans of 1950's rock n' roll, flying saucers, hot rods, Mexican food, dancing, tikis, Elvis Presley, hockey, MST3K, greasy Rhythm n' Blues and fans of a cool retro lifestyle. If I could get me a time machine I would go back in time to see HANK WILLIAMS play at the Louisiana Hayride and then buy him a beer after the show (just ONE drink, I wouldn't want to encourage his bad habits...!); I would see ELVIS PRESLEY with SCOTTY & BILL performing at some small Southern juke joint or High School gymnasium show and then take the boys out for burgers and jack n' cokes at 3 in the morning; I would go to New York, NY to watch JOHNNY BURNETTE and THE ROCK N' ROLL TRIO perform on stage at one of ALAN FREED's big shows and then encourage Johnny & Dorsey to beat up DICK CLARK (naw, not really...@;-)!).
On My Turntable Now:LUIS Y THE WILD TEENS "Brain Jail" 12" LP -The BEST rockin' party platter of 2007! Stuff this in your rockin' stockin' for X-Mas!Anything good making your pulse race? What's on your iPod??? -- WHUT'RE YOU LISSENIN' TOO?????
I buy DVD's when I can and when I can afford them. Definitely prefer the older stuff: vintage noir, psychotronic horror & sci-fi, goofy 50's stuff, etc. RECENT PURCHASES: GRINDHOUSE Presents PLANET OF TERROR, THE SUPERMAN MOVIE BOX SET, The OUTER LIMITS DVD Box Set, '300' DVD, MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (used a gift certificate to get the latest 4-DVD box), TALES OF THE RAT FINK DVD (gotta love Big Daddy Ed Roth!), I LOVE watching the REBEL BEAT -The Story of L.A. Rockabilly Documentary, HELLBOY Animated Series and we got the WOODY WOODPECKER DVD Box set recently, too (I don't remember WOODY being that violent...!)
Who has time to watch TV fer cryin' out loud?!?!? NBC's HEROES has been OK this season...
Books? Love 'em. Dig Sven Kirsten's new Tiki HC Book: TIKI MODERN from Taschen Books. I subscribe to and regularly read the following magazines: TIKI MAGAZINE, PSYCHOTRONIC (has there been a new issue lately?), BLUE SUEDE NEWS, OL' SKOOL RODS, CAR KULTURE DeLUXE (look for my music reviews!), MAXIM, BARRACUDA, TIKI NEWS, THE WIZZ, VARLA, PLAYBOY, NO DEPRESSION, TEASE, COMIC ART. Always looking for some recommended reading.... what's on your bookshelf or lying next to the can in your outhouse?
Batman and Superman. I dig the Justice League, too. I do like Marvel stuff, but usually the classics (I'm trying to collect all the MARVEL MASTERWORKS HARDBACK BOOKS... Gulp!). JLA (Justice League of America) fans!!! YOU MUST CHECK OUT Darwyn Cook's modern day 50's retro-masterpiece "THE NEW FRONTIER" -I found the ULTIMATE Slipcase edition and it's worth checking out. I'm really enjoying the hardcover E.C. WEIRD SCIENCE books: Simply amazing art and storytelling! I have the first two and I'm looking forward to getting more from the series...
