The world of words, reading, writing and poetry welcomed, Pascalle Onika Lewis on December 16, 1976. She was born on the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad – sister isle Tobago. She is the middle child of three, with a younger brother, who also delves into the poetry realm with his uniqueness of putting words together. As a child, her mother Coreen Lewis as well as her grandparents, Dorothy and Alfred Mayers always made sure she never had a want for anything. They always instilled the importance of education and the need for empowerment. At the tender age of nine, while attending Mucurapo Girls, R.C. School, Pascalle wrote a well recognized essay on the legendary Winnie Mandela, then wife of the respected and prominent Nelson Mandela. It was from that moment, her love for writing blossomed into something that she will allow to become her way to express herself. From this achievement, she developed an outstanding skill for putting words together to tell a phenomenal story, be it through short stories or her more notable poems. Her poetry writing was re-awakened after attending one of her English courses at Medgar Evers College, which she currently attends.Other than being motivated by her all time favorite author and Poet Laureate, Maya Angelou, Pascalle’s zest for poetry expanded even further when she became a peer group leader with the Misunderstood Youth Development Center, a non-profit organization, which provided a place for youths to express themselves. It was at this time, she introduced the world of poetry writing to the impressionable minds of the teens of her group.Pascalle has been described by many of her close friends as, crazy, kindhearted, sweet, loving, thoughtful, emotional and even peaceful. All of these very words, which always seem to protrude in her writing, give her readers an instant attachment to her world and placing themselves in her shoes.Pascalle is currently preparing to self - publish her first book of poetry to be titled, “Collections of a See Through Soul-Portraits”, under the pen name Onika Pascal. Scheduled to be out Summer 2007.She is currently preparing a memoir titled, “Becoming More Than Just An Orange – A Memoir of a Love Lost and Found” which entails non-fictional occurrences in her life, dotingly inviting her readers into a part of her world and also a novel titled "On The Eve of Goodbye". Both books have an unknown date of release in 2008.For the past 17 years, Pascalle has resided in Brooklyn, NY – her home away from home, and currently lives there with her 9 year old Son.
