The History of Lax Vs. South
Lax & Pete South first met in the nineties, when Pete offered a clean Roland TR-909 drum-box in a music-production-magazine. Rob a.k.a. Lax was stupid to buy it for a fortune. By the way it..s still working nowadays... During that business Rob & Pete found out, that both are enthusiastic collectors of vintage synths and studio equipment and also have their roots in dj-culture and club-music. Rob had a record deal with the project Tekkamaki Runner at EMI. For the second Tekkamaki Runner single “Disco King†Pete produced a remix with his further “Jornada Del Solâ€- partner Pet-C West. When Rob..s Tekka Album was released Rob and Pete remixed some german dance-projects under different pseudonyms. Pete and Pet-C West founded Jornada del Sol in 2002 and Rob started as Lax for Traumschallplatten on the MBF label, where he released a huge underground track called “MUSIC MAKES YOU!â€. In 2006 Rob and Pete collaborated again to create a remix for the Jornada Del Sol release “Rio Summer Nightâ€. For the success of that remix “Lax Vs. South†was born. The first Lax Vs. South single “El Gato Negro†featuring upcoming vocal diva Marashiva was released on the independent cultlabel Oceanlounge Records in summer 2007, followed by "Full Moon Flight" featuring Ian Jory in early summer 2008.
The Influences of Lax Vs. South
Lax & Pete are musically influenced by so many different styles and musicans through the decades until today, that it would make no sense to start a endless list, keeping the danger to forget one of the heroes. The sources of inspiration for the duo..s musical work is also coming out of their both same interests in design, art, classic video games and movies. Near their preferences for classic & sci-fi movies, the films of Dario Argento, Sergio Leone and Henri Verneuil belong to the all time favourits of Lax and Pete.
The Sound of Lax Vs. South
Until today the sound of Lax Vs. South is created out of hardware synthesizers and drummachines only, without any use of virtual synths or plug-ins. Lax and Pete have big collections of vintage equipment including classic stuff from Moog, Oberheim, Roland and Sequential, which express the prefered philosophy of sound-design of both. The Mac is only used for classic realtime midi-recording, sampling and stereo master-recording.
