Hi, My Name is Dayna Jean and I am a movieaholic.(Hi Dayna Jean)ahhhhh...NOW we have found my Achilles heel...Brad Pitt not withstanding...unless his heel is...nevermind.Movies are like a serious addiction for me...I love making them, watching them, writing them...editing them..producing them.....seriously...like...if there ever was a time in my life that I could not watch films due to say a nuclear attack where we no longer had electricity and could not power VCR's or DVD players, I would have to enslave 20 people a day and make them run on some contraption 24/7 driving them to their deaths to keep the generator running so I could watch my collection...yeah, I would have to become Jadis, the Evil White Witch of Narnia and accumulate some serious karma damage to keep up my addicti...uh, I mean habit...no wait..NEED...yes need in place..screw food and water, give me my Eddie Izzard DVD's and Highlander: The Series or DEATH!!!!(She chants with glee) " DVD's or Death! DVD's or Death!..Little Red Cook Book, Little Red Cook Book!"
Sadly, those RATBASTARD bean counters in Hollywood have deemed America TOO STUPID TO LIVE...and have removed any worthwhile programming on the television. Now grant it, some of the great shows retired from production, but some things that were BRILLIANT like Angel, Farscape, Firefly, and Arrested Development...to name a scant few... were canceled...WTF?Network Television USE to have cool shows like some of the afore mentioned. Where are our morality plays? Shakespeare would be so sad.I mean how many frellin' CSI shows do we REALLY need, and another "reality" show will make 1/3 of the nation go seriously postal in a tragic Falling Down way.Cable has a few noteworthy shows, but also became susceptible to the DumbAss-itis by canceling Farscape, Carnivale, and Dead Like Me. I like Dead Zone, Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, Dr Who, Torchwood, and I look forward to a gem here and there as they arise. The networks have redeemed themselves in Fall 2006 with Jericho, Heroes, and Criminal Minds...a little bit..just a little.I can not afford cable, hence my shrine erected to Netflix.Sadly, television as a place to inexpensively reach, inspire, and nurture the masses has seen its day..missed the boat..and that is sad, sad, sad, my friends.
ahhhhh...books.I recently have been querying my clients about the books they are reading, or have read. I am disheartened to discover that a cross section of those in my interactive world do not take the time to read.I DEVOUR books, always have.I was cracking into Greek and Roman mythologies at the age of 6. My Uncle Rick gave me his beat up, spines broken, pages coming out copies of J.R.R. Tolkien's -The Hobbit and Fellowship Of The Rings books to ponder and lose myself in at age 8. That was an incredible summer at the lake. I only would come out of the books briefly if Grandma made cinnamon-sugar toast.(yummy)And can we say Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter? The Dark Hunter series? These are fantastic worlds created to play in the mind in..Currently my faves include....Laurell K Hamilton, Gael Baudino, Jaqueline Carey, Diana Paxson, Sherrilyn Kenyon, George R R Martin, Kim Harrison, and Neil Gaiman. This too also fluctuates and shifts as I read about 4-5 books of some kind per week...yea...I said week.I am a historical romance whore as well...anything Bodice- Ripper of a grand epic variety..or paranormal romance...I am diggin'.Yeah, books...they are fan-TA-stic.Hey YOU! Go get a book and read the damn thing instead of reading this profile!!!! Yeah I am talking to you...Go..go to Barnes & Noble...AKA The Church....GO!!!
My cousin Andrew. Recently discharged from Army Ranger now a Veteran of Foreign Wars....at 22 years old.Served in Afghanistan, and Iraq.He survived....and inspired a play I am writing about all the warriors in my family, as well as those in other families in our culture. My Mom, Linda; My Dad, Wayne; My Brother, Jason; My Uncles, Dan, Larry, Rick, and Randy; are also my heroes. They contribute to being the backbone of America in their working class worlds. I am humbled by their sacrificing their bodies to the tasks. My Uncle Jack is a veterinary and warrior. That kicks ass too. Many Masters/Mistresses of the Arts, such as William Shakespeare, Giovanna Garzoni, Hildegard von Bingen, Mozart, Veronica Franco, Da Vinci etc. Their work was passionate in its eruption into existence, and carry messages that inspire, overcoming language barriers, class barriers, and hit right at the soul level. And that such art has survived our "disposable" culture says it all...my heroes are also those artists that strive to be the best at what they do despite the cultural and economic oppression that one must "deem" to suffer and starve to be considered a "real" artist....or die before you can be taken seriously.excuse me? That is so un-enlightened..WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!
