Ken Massey - Guitarist, Recording Artist and Producer
Presented by: Chesapeake Records
Guitarist Ken Massey dazzles with feathery-fingered fretwork on his Jazzy debut "Autumn In Baltimore." Quite a range considering he's also known for some string-bending Blues bluster as well. On "Autumn" he conquers modern fusion with a sophisticated, lyrical and melodic set of original compositions from the sprite "Cloverfields", gently swingin' "Billy Dee" (a tribute to the radio personality) to the Soulful "Keyed In", which captures the spirit of "Cruisin'". On the bluesier side comes "Oak Manor". Massey's tastes have evolved over the years from Pop & Rock incarnations (local groups The Grabbers, Hare Trigger) to Jazz, but he's also an impressive Blues picker as evidenced from samples I've heard on his upcoming Blues record with legend Dicky Williams. I'll admit smooth Jazz isn't normally my thing but I caught myself playing air guitar to Massey's fast and flawless guitar lines on "Autumn". Dang! I wish I could do that. An enjoyable listen every time I hear it. Dylann Deanna, Blues Critic Media: www.bluescritic.com

Ken,
Thanks for sending me your CD. I've listened to it and you are very talented. Good writer and player! I was particularly fond of "Keyed in", "Oak Manor" and "Avanti Blue". I may spin those on our weekly "Friday Feedback Track" in the future and see what our listeners think. Robert Dees, Program Director Smooth Jazz 92.1 KJZS
Relaxing and sophisticated; smooth blues/jazz guitarist, Ken Massey, makes his debut as a solo artist with the release of Autumn In Baltimore. A well produced and well written series of smooth jazz compositions with Ken’s guitar singing melodies that will leave you wanting more. Ken shows his maturity in this release by taking the hard edge off of his rock chops and playing a clean bluesy jazz guitar style. Ken reaches back to his classical roots and uses his nylon string guitar on Billy Dee. He explores his blues based British Invasion influences on Oak Manor, experiments a bit by using a steel string acoustic passed through a jazz chorus on Park Plaza and a more straight ahead jazz style on the title track, Autumn In Baltimore.
While Autumn In Baltimore is his first solo release, Ken is no stranger to the music business. He began his musical career in 1970, while still attending high school. Ken decided to study classical guitar and in 1972 began guitar lessons at the Peabody Preparatory School in Baltimore.
Later, Ken became immersed in the world of rock guitar. He has played in the bands, Hare Trigger, Legacy and Hurricane. Ken played the lead guitar and did the arranging on Hare Trigger’s 1995 release, Just Believe.
Ken’s constantly evolving musical tastes and appetite for musical exploration led him into other areas as well. He has performed as a sideman with singer/songwriter Joe Warren, with whom he recorded and toured nationally. Ken also has numerous other recording credits on many Washington DC area studio projects. He has performed and recorded live, Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Major, as a soloist, with the Summer String Orchestra.
All of his prior experiences are rolled into his passionate work on Autumn In Baltimore. Superb compositions and virtuoso guitar style designed to move you and relax you at the same time!
