They've got their own page over here! LOLLI DOLLIES Lollipop Shoppe Reviews! "Recently Lollipop Shoppe has been consistently arranging cool parties and fun retro-centrics gatherings all over Dallas and Denton. Apparently headed up by Patricia Rodriguez, aka Dj Tiger Bee (bustin' out the expertise in 60's-70's music), and boasting a bit of a fan base, the steady growth of this collective of like-minds is (I think) a great sign of Dallas' growth, stylistically. These sort of pigeon hole gatherings, glossy and hip, used to be reserved for places with potent scenes, but Lollipop Shoppe is doing it's part to arrowhead the new wave of youth taking a foothold here. With fun group excursions like a group trip to go vintage shopping at the local hot-shoppes (a nice mixer for the unacquainted) to Mod N Soul Weekenders, featuring guest Djs and themed dance all weekend (with low covers to boot), it's a great addition to a scene sorely lacking in character and variance." - courtesy of Luther at partyends.com"Last Saturday night at the Double Wide, Frank (oops, I mean Fruank) Popp spun tunes that were so imminently danceable he brought out the A-list crowd. Flown in from Germany, mod capital of Europe, Herr Popp’s selection ranged from the Beatles’ “Paperback Writer” (who in the crowd didn’t think they would be one, one day?) to a host of ’60s and ’70s songs that have probably not been heard since radio play in that era. Everyone danced. I put down my camera (gasp!) and swam, go-go’d, and boogaloo’d. Unheard of, in Dallas; dancing hipsters. How wonderful. Lollipop Shoppe pops. Their shows are bi-monthly, and I’m not missing another. After I raid my mom’s closet, that is. " -Kate Mackley for The Fine Line"To make their swinging parties even more happening, '60s fetishists the Lollipop Shoppe came up with the perfect shiny accessory for their groovy thrift-store dresses and go-go boots: a compilation CD. Lollipop gal DJ TigerBee, aka The Shapes' singer/bassist Patricia Rodriguez, recruited some of her favorite retro-rock acts—all Texan except New Mexico-based Dirty Novels—to feature on her collective's first benefit CD (proceeds benefit ... the Lollipop Shoppe!).But TigerBee and fellow Shoppe-er Captain Groovy (Evan Chronister) created more than a mere compilation; the disc transitions between songs seamlessly, changing from fast to slow and back to fast just when you want it to, and avoids the annoying dramatic volume changes that plague amateur mix CDs.The disc kicks off with the Klogz's "Sugartown," a psychedelic dance party with fuzzed-out guitar and toy piano. It's followed by the Unbearables' tight power-pop "Zombies Unite" with a chorale of zombies vowing "People, people, we're gonna eat 'em." White Drugs' "Levitation" is the polar opposite: sloppy, hard garage rock with bluesy distorto-guitar.Mwanza Dover's cover of Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" is the highlight of the album. Dover croons it like a stoned Leonard Cohen at dirge pace over phase-shifting drums and cool keys. Great songs from the S-1 Committee, Prayer for Animals, Lithium Xmas (really) and others make this easily worth $6—and make a great case for future Lollipop compilations." -Jesse Hughey for The Dallas Observer " The opportunity to conjure up a redemptive prom do-over sounds like a Fantasy Island episode. Fortunately, Dallas has its very own Mr. Rourke in the person of Patricia Rodriguez, who is half of the driving force behind local collective the Lollipop Shoppe, an outfit that proclaims itself "Dallas' Best '60s and Beyond Club." The Shoppe is joining forces with Mike Snider, the man behind the AllGood Café in Deep Ellum, to bring a second-chance prom to anybody and everybody, but especially to those who missed out the first time around. " "Naturally, this environment surrounds the Shoppe's usually bi-monthly parties around town. Their Sexadelic DanceParty last month had Avenue Arts in Exposition Park bathed in a hallucinogenic purple glow as roving multicolored spotlights eddied about the room and random images of propaganda films played on a large screen dangling from the ceiling. A few pedestals graced the walls for the Lollipop Ladies go-go dancers to shake their mod thing. Girls dressed in the tradition of Twiggy and Dusty, while gents suited up to the tune of 007, Connery-style, or Monkees hipster fashion. " -Rich Lopez for Dallas ObserverWe're the HOT Party in F!
