Artisan “Resonator” snare drums 2007 has been a very busy year at the Artisan Drumworks workshop! One of our favorite contemporary style drummers of all time is the late Jeff Porcaro. Among the many snare drums he used, a very noteable one was a Pearl “freefloating” snare. This drum produced a very nice pop and crisp tonal quality. We have taken the “floating” concept to a new level. We introduce the “Resonator” snare drum series. The chassis of this floating shell drum is handcrafted from hardwood utilizing the same tried and true methods we employ when making our custom wood hoops. All of the lugs and the snare strainer sytem are mounted to the chassis enabling the drum shell to resonate freely. This also allows for a quick change of the drum shell for different sound possibilities. Chassis’s may either be of the same material as the shell, or a contrasting species of wood per your choice. Wooden chassis’s offer another level of resonance and contribute a higher degree of tone to this type of set up. Additionally, they add aesthetic appeal. Mated with one of our handcrafted stave shells, these drums are very sensitive and speak instantly due to the design characteristics. The lugs used on the Resonator are machined in house out of solid brass and are available in polished and lacquered brass, nickel plated, black chrome, or shiny chrome finishes. The snare strainer is a double strainer type with tension controls on both sides accompanied by Puresound snare wires. Drum shells and chassis’s can be finished according to your preference in either Oil/Wax, Hand -Rubbed Satin, or High Gloss Lacquer. Triple Flange hoops come standard. Die-Cast, Vintage Single Flange, or Artisan custom wood hoops available. Patent Pending.4.5?x14?African Mahogany in Vintage Brass, Hand-Rubbed Satin Finish shown above. Custom sizes available.
We are proud to present our newest product, The Artisan “Blacksmith,,Series”. This unique snare drum is made from the rare wood, Wenge. This species is harvested in Cameroon and The Central African Republic. It is a very heavy wood with bold figure, and naturally black in appearance. The drum’s tonal quality resembles the character of a metal drum. Rendering a warm, clear and sensitive voice, it sings a hint of that minute “twang” associated with the classic brass snare drum we’ve all played and love. We are pleased to bring it to you with our Lifetime Guarantee of quality craftsmanship. Key Features: Wenge in Oil/Wax Finish Only Trick Throw-Off Black Nickel Tube Lugs Black Nickel Triple Flange Hoops (2.3mm) Pure Sound 25 Strand Snare wires Remo Coated Ambassador Batter/ SA bottom Available in 5×14 or 6×14 Lifetime Warranty! The Artisan Blacksmith,,… from one craftsman to another.EDGECRAFT,, SERIES
At Artisan Drumworks, we are continually looking for and listening to feedback from our customers. So comes our latest introduction, EdgeCraft,,EdgeCraft,, utilizes a thinner shell profile coupled with an integral reinforcement ring (I.R.R.) that is cut into and an integral part of the shell. Placing the I.R.R. at each edge of the shell allows us to produce thinner shells with specific dimensions according to their diameter. We believe the proportion of the volume and mass of a shell is a factor that effects overall tone and sustain. Borrowing the premise of world-renowned makers of high quality drums, we are now offering our highly acclaimed stave drum shells in this design. Thin shells are known to offer a higher degree of resonance and a lower fundamental pitch. They also allow more of the wood and less of the drum head to be heard.Thinner shells are commonly preferred in studio and lower volume settings. Thicker shells are a better choice for live settings and where projection is needed, such as coliseums. We are proud to offer our EdgeCraft,, design. As always, all of our snare drums and drum sets are handcrafted to your exact specifications. The Symphonia,, (orchestral)
Symphonic Series: (6 x 14 Cocobolo)Artisan Drumworks is proud to present the Flagship model of our symphonic series snare drums: The Symphonia. This exquisite instrument is handcrafted out of solid Cocobolo (Dalbergia Retusa). A true tropical rosewood, this wood species is considered by some to be the most attractive in the world. Cocobolo is widely used among luthiers in acoustic guitar making not only for it’s beauty, but mainly for it’s rich tone and sustain.Cocobolo trees grow in the west coast region of Central America. Wood grain varies in color from rich red to an attractive variegated appearance of yellow, orange, and red streaks which matures upon exposure to light. Over time this process produces a mellow orange/ red color. Cocobolo is very dense and has a fine, uniform texture. It is one of the most resonant wood species we have worked with to date. In fact, we use Cocobolo in our demonstrations to contrast the difference between solid wood (stave shell design) and ply wood (ply shell design) during our “tap test” display. The Symphonia comes outfitted with cable, heavy nylon, standard wires, and genuine calf skin heads ( batter and snare side). This combination of features, coupled with this incredible “tone wood,” affords the musician multiple sonic textures and a warm, beautiful tone that is unparalleled. Fortissimo,, Vented Series
In a constant effort to offer our customers “cutting edge” instruments, we introduce Artisan Drumworks’ Fortissimo vented snare drums. An exciting new offering from our shop, these are not for the faint in heart. A massive 1? thick drum shell, 3/8? spline reinforced staves, and large 2 1/2? vents. This configuration makes for a very loud drum, with a controlled, dry tone. Very well suited to the heavier side of music, Rock & Roll players really appreciate what these drums have to offer. Available in your choice of wood, with or without contrasting splines. If desired, we can modify the total shell thickness and vent hole sizes to suit your preference. These unique drums come with our exclusive Lifetime Warranty.THE COMPANY Like most serious players, I wanted to play a snare drum with a unique voice, since the snare drum is the center-piece behind the drum set. Having played the very best drums in the industry, including Yamaha, Pearl, Tama, DW and others over the span of my thirty- year career, I longed for something different like many fellow drummers today. I wanted the snare drum to be truly custom, and one of a kind to develop a signature sound. While stationed with the United States Navy Band in Honolulu, Hawaii, I became intrigued with the wood of the indigenous Koa tree. I purchased lumber of this rare species to build my first snare drum. With this drum, my passion to create the highest quality drums and drum sets was ignited. After extensive research and experimenting with the three main processes of construction, ply shells, steam bent one ply (solid) shells, and stave (segment) shells, I am 100% convinced of the superiority of stave construction. So I began constructing custom snare drums and drum sets for my students and local gigging drummers. With growing interest and so many requests from session players, professional drummers, symphonic percussionists, and students, Artisan Drumworks was officially born in November 2004, in Memphis, Tennessee… Home of the Blues and The Birthplace of Rock & Roll. I have meticulously handcrafted the highest quality instruments for customers to their exact preferences from shell type and thickness, wood species, hardware choice, and finish type one at a time. Playing drums and crafting drums are my passions. I pledge to you the Artisan Drumworks’ exclusive Lifetime Warranty and your complete satisfaction in a snare drum or drum set that has no equal.
Reso-Tone,, Artisan Drumworks researches, experiments, and tests multiple parameters that contribute to the tone of our instruments. We are now offering a new feature available on our drum shells that enhances sound resonance and reflection and produces a “wetter” tone: Reso-Tone,, . This involves a sealing process inside of the shell that increases reflectivity of sound vibrations and brightens attack without sacrificing the natural warmth and character of the wood. Drum shells that are only oil sealed will be a bit drier in tone. If you want a bit more “bite” and “wetness” to your sound, this option should be considered. An Artisan exclusive!Reso-Tone,,: $35 (per shell)

My Interests

ArtisanDrumworks
WHO MADE YOUR DRUMS?:Nearly all drum companies (Mass produced or Custom) do NOT make their own drums - they actually buy their drum-shells from the same manufacturing plant, put on a cover/wrap and stamp their name on the finished product. The price varies greatly only by the name on the drum, not the actual drum itself since they essentially are all the same drums! A BOLD statement?.... Just ask your drum manufacturer or distributor, if they can't give you a satisfactory answer - you now know why. Artisan Drumworks NEVER imports shells from a mass distributor and we do not offer Keller Shells - we hand make each and every one in our own facility in Memphis, TN ensuring complete and meticulous control over the entire process from start to finish, we are 'THE AUTHORITY' in STAVE construction utilizing our 'REVOLUTIONARY' patent pending technique that can only be decribed as 'Old World Craftsmanship' incorporating 'New World Technology'. If ARTISAN didn't make it - we refuse to put our name on it - It's not only our Guarantee, it's our reputation and our PROMISE to you.
..QUESTION:...Is a custom drum really a custom drum if the only distinction is the veneer or outer covering? Plywood sounds like plywood no matter what name is stamped on it. That's why Artisan Drumworks can truly call itself a CUSTOM drumshop, our shells are made on site utilizing a *revolutionary approach and technique. Please visit our official website at www.ArtisanDrumWorks.com to learn more about this process and why OUR drums offer far superior tone.*PATENT PENDING

The Drummers Forum A SMART INVESTMENT: Mass produced drums depreciate the moment you step away from the door of the retail establishment where you made your purchase. ENDORSEMENTS: We sincerely appreciate everyone that loves and plays our drums; however, we do not offer FREE endorsement deals. Paying an Artist and/or offering free entitlements says absolutely nothing about the quality of the drums being used, it simply says the Artist is paid/compensated to play and advertise them.
