Life is all about ass. You're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, behaving like one, or living with one. For drummer Rändy Käus, spending his career sitting on his is the chance of a lifetime. No... he's not hepped up on goofballs, he's the drummer for the Adam Zādok Band. Men admire him and women think they can change him; he's a man whose face is a virtual cash register.
Rändy arrived in Upstate New York from Hollywood, CA. While eking out a living there, he hosted a popular home improvement TV reality show where the closets of gay celebrities were secretly remodeled. It was called, "While You Were Outed." Being overwhelmed by the diversity of today's televised award shows, Rändy once thought the Teen Choice Awards were trophies handed out at Singapore bordellos.
After relocating to New York, he quickly hooks up playing drums for the most popular punk bands in the area. Once established, Rändy honed his drumming style into a hard hitting, power-pop sound. Leaning towards the fringe of the music world, he was immediately drawn to the punk rock movement of the late '70s and early '80s. It is strong, pure, and real, a complete departure from today's watered down, over produced corporate rock that's spoon fed to the public.
Being weaned off the proverbial teats of such iconic bands as The Clash and The Ramones, Rändy has the acute ability to combine chaos with a clear head. Laying down a rock solid foundation, Rändy's philosophy of letting the bass and drums be the canvas while allowing the vocals and guitars to paint the picture is a remarkably refreshing and unpretentious approach. It's widely reported that Rändy once failed a 12th grade geography exam when he listed "Hannah" as the state capital of Montana.
Rändy has performed in well over 20 rock bands throughout his career. Playing the drums for some 27 plus years, he develops his signature sound from studying four decades worth of influential drummer's styles. After years of pounding out original punk and straight ahead rock in dark and dirty nightclubs, Rändy unselfishly gives back to the community by donating plasma at the local flat screen television factory.
Fulfilling his need to become a multidimensional performer, you can now add acting to Rändy's list of credits. In the independent film release RAW HELL, he plays a notorious mob hit man. The film's big screen debut was a huge success, selling out the entire theater. Rändy also contributed to the movie by playing drums on the film soundtrack. It was a pretty cool feeling having the movie poster hanging next to such Hollywood blockbusters as "Fantastic Four" and "War of the Worlds."
Ever the philanthropist, Rändy founded AAAAA: the roadside assistance program for drunk drivers. Among other interests, he enjoys watching cartoons. His favorite used to be "SpongeBob SquarePants" until he found out it wasn't about contraceptive devices.
At a time when a pure pop rock impulse is being ignored in favor of brooding impression, it's reassuring that Rändy hasn't abandoned his goal. "I don't get it when people say just a pop rock band," he explains. "I think being in a brilliant pop band is the highest thing you can aspire to be. Pop music is something that's both throwaway and something that changes your life. That's what I want to achieve... disposable brilliance."
Rändy's heavy signature sound has propelled him to the top of the food chain. And now, a star of stage and screen, the planets have aligned for Rändy, placing him firmly in the driver's seat.
