I am here for Friends

About Me

I believe that Freedom of the Press is essential. While the press may be a weak reed to lean on, it is the indispensable support for freedom. I believe that nations should settle their differences on the baseball diamond or via one big band competition... "And the winner is... LATVIA!" I cannot be close friends with anyone who doesn't read. I am fervent about separation of government and religion. The Constitution says, "No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any Office or Public Trust under the United States." Word!!

George Carlin, Enemy of Bullshitters, Has Died

Bullshit has lost its No. 1 enemy today.  George Carlin, my hero, died at age 71. He first reduced me to a puddle of hilarity and amazement in the 70s. He did a bit, might have been on Carson whe...

Last Steps

The Visitor: One Movie Worth Seeing

The Visitor -- written and directed by Thomas McCarthy -- is the first movie I have seen this year that I would recommend with no ifs, ands or buts. On its face, the story is about a young, undocument...

An Open Letter to John McCain

Dear JM: You haven't heard from me in a long time. I wrote once before on the topic of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill. If I may be so bold, I have a piece of advice for you. Poll aft...
