About Me

Finally, the Vancouver Dr.Sketchy's has a profile. We're pleased to announce that we'll be holding our regular monthly get-togethers of the Anti Art School at our burlesque space, Dollhouse Studios.
Our next date is Thursday October 18th at Dollhouse Studios. Our model is the QUEEN OF SASS, Ms. Crystal Precious!!
So what is Dr.Sketchy's? It's what happens when cabaret meets art school...It's the little Brooklyn event that became a movement. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr. Sketchy's asked a simple question. Why can't drawing naked people be sexy?
Here's our attempt at an answer...We combed New York to find the most beautiful burlesque dancers, the most bizarre circus freaks, and the most rippling hunks of man. Then we let you draw them for three hours. Interspersed with posing are ridiculous drawing contests (best left handed drawing? Best incorporation of a woodland animal?) where you can win booze or prizes. We hauled the lights, sent out thousands of listings, and wheatpasted posters during snowstorms. We also insisted on our models making the highest wages in the city.Dr. Sketchy's has received scads of media attention for it's combination of burlesque and art. We've been written up in The LA Times, the Washington Post, Time Out New York, Time Out London, The Village Voice, The Sunday Age in Melbourne, NY Press, Gothamist, Fleshbot, The National Post (Canada), Nikkei Trendy (Japan) and scores of alt.weeklies. Talking heads have talked about us on NBC, BBC, WPIX, Richmond's NPR affiliate and The Hi Definition Network. We were chosen as "Best Wacky Life Drawing Session" by Shecky's 2007 Best of New York.In the meantime, artists across the world wanted in on our three hours of decadence. Starting in Norfolk, Virginia, but soon spreading from Hollywood to Berlin to Melbourne, Dr. Sketchy's began popping up across the globe. Now we're a 21-city strong art community, with new branches starting each week.
Now, we're bringing to Vancouver, where there is a helathy combonation of ridiculously talented artists balanced with a startling number of burlesque beauties and cabaret charmers. What to do now? Circle your calender and get drawing!

My Interests

The arts! Why watch hockey when you can support your arts (and it doesn't cost you $12 a beer?)
We love reading and supporting local comics, attending and producing cabarets and burlesque shows, and making costumes for talented peeps to draw.

I'd like to meet:

Burlesque-o-philes, comic book artists, the low-brow artists, costume queens, dandies, and anyone interested in just having a good time!

Music:

You name it, it's probably been on our sterio.
